Speaking about being 'tough' and 'strong'. I think I actually became stronger after going to the States for the 1st time. Yes, I live in a building with no elevator and I never lived in a building that had one. I never studied in a building that has one either (even though newer university buildings have them, but I'm lucky enough to study in an old one). I don't see any problems in walking back and forth between the 1st the and 4th stories 50 times a day. Riding a bus during rush hour periods can seem tough, but that's what I've been doing all my life, so that's easy too.

The really hard part comes though when you are in a foreign country, you don't know anybody or anything, nobody is waiting for you, nobody can help you and you have to find a place to live. Thank God, I came with a friend and we both had jobs. We got pretty lucky to find a place to live in downtown Annapolis, but it meant that all the grocery stores, libraries and (oh my God! ) the mall were pretty far away. And neither of us could drive at that point, so... I really learned how to be patient at that point, because I knew that if you miss the bus, you'll have to wait for an hour to catch the next one. We didn't have wi-fi or a cable at home, so... 30-40 min. walks to the library under the midday sun with all that terrible humidity were fun  And rains in Maryland differ from rains at the place where I live - there it doesn't matter what you do or how big your umbrella is, if you got caught in the rain, you're getting wet.

Things got a little bit easier after I met my fiance, but I was still pretty much on my own.

I know that there are hardly any American people, who have the same kind of difficulties, but the point is that it's not country that makes you strong and patient sometimes. It's more about trying to live on your own in a completely unfamiliar environment.

And I'm really glad I was adventuros and... well, crazy enough to do something like that.

Not to be a killjoy, but if your friend is worrying about how much money this process will cost him, before he even starts, then I would suggest this method isn't for him. There's nothing wrong with being aware of scams, excessive fees and the like; but this process isn't cheap and IMO expense shouldn't be the first thing on your mind, but how to achieve the best results should; regardless of cost.

100% agreed!

Ha, you know I never thought of that. I just thought about it and between the two trips, skype to cell calls, packages, presents, etc, I've got an easy 5000 invested already and its only been a year. I haven't even done the K-1 yet but that's another 1700+. RUB girls are expensive to get one, HOWEVER, well worth it I think :-D !!!!!!

But you know how most people are -- "How would I do that???" and then you tell them some easy ways to get involved, but they may go to a web site once but usually won't get involved. (I run a model airplane club, works exactly the same way) It takes a REAL man of courage with some resources to truly get involved and win the heart of a RUB girl and then to go over there and do what is necessary to bring her home :-D My boss simply said "Wow David I guess you really like challenges especially now that she's pregnant" I just said "Yes I guess so" LOL!!!!!!!!!

It does take courage and it has got to be destiny I guess!))

My husband spent a lot of money on just emailing me (almost a year 2 emails every day through dating website), then several trips to spend time with me in Ukraine (airplane tickets, hotel, going out etc.), amazing flowers and everlasting talking on skype... he is not rich, no, he is just one of the middle class american guys but... I don't know, it worked for both of us, but I think it is more exception then a rule. I have heard a lot of negative stories when it is either slavic woman fool american man or american man torture ukr/rus woman... unfortunately it happens...

Well, I never even wanted to live in US, I came here only because of my hubby, I do love him for who he is, that is probably the deal ;)

Everyone here can sleep well knowing my wife is not in abject poverty, nor was she as my fiancee, nor was she before she met me. Now that everyone is feeling good about that...

Determining someone else's fiancee is in abject poverty, though you know nothing of the culture, the way people live or anything else is not even intelligent. I also sincerely doubt anyone here as any real concern about someone else's living conditions. I know I have enough to do to keep my own family afloat, I leave others to their own business and I certainly do not go to other regional forums and toss in persoanl insults with no more than a single post to determine how they are allowing their fiancees to live in countries I know nothing about.

But I sincerely appreciate the concern shown by unselfish members with families from other, much more prosperous and comfortable countries for the destitute Russian and Ukrainian and Belarussian women. I also appreciate that they check in on us every day to make sure everyone is OK. It makes me feel secure and, really, just all warm and fuzzy. Thank you.

Well, that is great to hear that your wife is not in poverty Gary. From reading some of your early postings on this site, I can see that you were quite worried about having enough money/assets to be able to meet the poverty guidelines. Poverty Gary, is a problem that transcends culture. But once again, you seem to have missed the entire point of a post, so you can stop the theatrics. Stating that your pregnant wife is living in a hostel is not something to brag about. I have stayed in hostels when I was younger, and would not wish that fate upon anyone else, let alone live in one. The ability to endure poverty is not a sign of strength or indicative of anything. You can keep trolling with your "American women are #######" line all you want, but it's a weak troll Gary.

That was before we elected Obama and he saved me from poverty with all the positive changes. Perhaps some people's lives are the same or worse than 3+ years ago. Mine isn't. Perhaps some people wait for the government to raise their minimum wage. I don't.

The entire point is that adults make decisions and other adults mind their own business...at least where I come from. I am not going to be sending any money to his fiancee (not wife) and neither are you, so what's the point? I care for my family, and he cares for his...or doesn't. I couldn't possibly care less. I trust adults to make their own decisions. One of the truly most refreshing things about living in Ukraine was the complete lack of insincere BULLSH*T.

Have a nice day :)

You say you don't care about what people do, so why do you care about who posts in what forum?

This doesn't 'belong' to you Gary... the regional forums might have ended up as some sort of enclave for a clique of people, but you have no ownership of them whatsoever

Things must be boring in your world.

I think I said thank you, actually, for all the thoughtful and intelligent posts we receive from others.

if you feel left out, I am sorry. Let me thank you personally for the incredibly thought provoking comment above. Welcome to the RUB forum. Have a nice day.

You found this post, I've already drawn my own conclusions about why that is.

I would guess it is because of the stimulating multi-cultural conversations and the stunning contributions of members not married to RUB women in particular.

I doubt that this woman is living in a hostel. I have seen some communal apartments in operation still in Ukraine (Shared bathroom and such)which have more privacy than a hostel. If she is living in a hostel or similar living conditions, pregnant with small children, then asking OP for a fur coat and leather boots seem to be a serious misordering of priorities. Even in Ukraine.

Alla wants me to treat her like a "spoiled daughter". I wouldn't really call it a "daddy issue" btu she wants a man to be a man and make her "safe" and go "in front". I have no problem with that. I slay all the dragons and she picks the flowers and puts them in her hair. OK, a bit dramatic, but in theory anyway. Seems like we both benefit.

I agree with Why_Me on a lot of things. Great sex is awesome and very important in our relationship. So is having an attractive woman for a wife. But I always wonder at the people that think some things are mutually exclusive. A woman can be drop dead beautiful and does not have to be 18 or 22 or even 35. 40+ women are gorgeous also. Young does not equal "great sex" necessarily...or even more than likely! "Stupid" or "brainless" cannot equal great sex, IMO. I will leave the 19 year old gymnasts to him though (though the whole gymnast thing is interesting. Are there any 40 year old gymnasts?)

I found that there was no reason I could not have a gorgeous wife, closer to my age, great sex and intelligent conversation when you finish. I am thrilled my wife can speak excellent English and she is the type that will move to a country and not only learn the language, but TEACH it to others. THAT is stimulating. I am also thrilled we can stand in line at the grocery store and she can tell me, in Russian, that she is wearing the black lace panties I like so much and the checkout girl just smiles stupidly while I ... :o Dammit Alla! You are doing it to me again! :P

Yes...

She/He/It shares a common title with Admin, and will probably be the next flaming star regional mod. Check her post in Site Related Discussion if you missed it.

I came across one of C-Hammers posts where he/she was complaining about our lack of family values in the RUB forum. All the other lemmings were eating it up....

I saw Hostel and Hostel II. Things were pretty hot, well, until the kidnapping-torture-killing started.

You mean all the other people with no experience with families? One wonders how many children they may have spent hours with doing homework and teaching English to. One wonders how many of their children have masters degrees or full scholarships for same or graduated high school at age 16. Maybe that does not count for family values? One would wonder what does? I wonder how many people such members have assisted with their specific knowledge of the Kiev consulate, how many other members did their wife/husband maybe translate documents for, meet at the consulate to offer encouragement. Silly stuff like that. Perhaps they providied sample I-134s for K2 children since they were otherwise unavailable at this family friendly site.

Ever wonder how many basketball games they attended, lacrosse games? Parent teacher conferences, doctors appointments. How many people did they teach to drive a car? To swim?

Where exactly would someone coem across such gems of wisdom? There is a forum for this A place where people without RUB families go to criticize those that do? I would never imagine such a thing here at VJ
