Muslim women could soon be offered a burka-style gown in NHS hospitals.

Doctors fear that many do not seek treatment because the standard issue gowns are not modest enough.

[...]

It reveals only the hands and eyes and has been introduced following claims from Muslim women that the regulation dress was too revealing and therefore contrary to their faith.

I'd get it in a heartbeat, minus the niqab (face covering). My grandma was in the hospital last week, and she wore two gowns, one over the front and one to cover over the back. Otherwise she'd have to shuffled around the halls with her bum hanging out

That's great and wonderful news!

Of course, depending on what you're in for, they shouldn't have an objection at any hospital to throw a scarf or overhead abaya over you when needed. ;)

I would also opt out of the niqab thingy... when I veil completely I don't leave my eyes out like that

Can I ask what is the reason for covering the eyes as well?

Just my personal preference and the opionion of shaykh al albanee, that when you cover everything but the eyes it brings the eyes out and makes them look more beautiful / attractive and draws more attention to them. In some cases, not all, but it seems to cause fitnah with some men. Allahu 'alim (Allah knows--sorry I forgot I was in OT for a sec LOL).

What does fitnah mean?

I comprehended about everything you said except "fitnah." Context clues didn't help me with that one either. So if I'm understanding correctly, it's a matter of hiding your physical beauty from the eyes of men so it doesn't cause "fitnah" with them, which I would still love to know the meaning of. Is that correct? If so, is this based on a belief that men lack the ability to control their "fitnah" or is it more of not giving them the option of committing that sin?

N/M you just explained fitnah...
