Actually, I will agree that this thread was moved to the correct forum. OT and P&R are about non-immigration topics. AJ chose to focus his post on the effects the Government closure would have on Immigration specifically. Since his post deals with immigration as opposed to the more general effects and the political nature of a government shut-down, his thread was moved correctly to the General Immigration Related Discussion as the focus is more on immigration than on the political situation involved.

I will also remind everyone that this thread is now posted in the immigration forums so please adjust the tone of your discussion/conversation accordingly. Those who are reading this thread, please realize that the stronger language used earlier on in the thread reflect the character of the forum in which the topic was originally posted so please do not 'over-react' to the choice of some of the words used in the thread up until this point.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Personally, I think preference should be given to an experienced poster like G. Backslash as to which forum the discussion relates. Perhaps some allowance should be given in the future before such apparently arbitrary decisions are made. Now, if the discussion follows along this tract, one of how things are organized here, will it be moved to that area?

I thought Backslash had it in the right forum all along. Maybe there was a reason we are not seeing that would make sense but only that person would know. It should maybe moved to site related forum because it could be calmly and reasonably and I hope anyway soundly discussed.

you know, for me this is the most important thing in my life. not no shut down , no no politics.. i want my wife here with me and that is all i want to get through right now!..

Yes some think small and don't see the overall picture. I guess it is Ok for Obama the Socialist to get his record deficit done so your one visa can be processed. The other 300 million don't matter one whit.

You're navigating through a system that already has a lot of variability built in when it comes to how long your petition or application takes from filing to approval. Which service center your petition goes to. Which consulate your approved petition goes to. The day of the freakin' week the service center receives your petition. Whether you paid by check or money order. Whether the foreign beneficiary can get a medical appointment in a timely manner or not. Whether the asswipes who share a country with the foreign beneficiary feel like blowing up a bus stand or start a riot the day before the interview. I could go on but you get the point. There are already a million different things that cause each one of us to have a slightly different timeline than the other.

And you want to whine about the government shutdown?

It is but one more variable in a long series of many. And it isn't even the most impactful.

So stfu about the shutdown already. This shutdown debate is about something a lot bigger than you or I.

Who are you to tell me what I can or can't complain about. I've been dealing with this process for a year and now that I'm at the last stage with a few weeks to go this happens. This is a heck of a lot more impactful than just waiting x number of days to make up for the shutdown. People are still sending in petitions which will now be backlogged even worse. Interviews and appointments that have to be cancelled will be rescheduled making another backlog at that step. So I can complain if I want and if you don't like it that's just too damn bad. You can skip reading my posts and STFU yourself.

I've scoped a bunch of the innumerable threads on the Shutdown topic, and the complaints seem to be "I, I, I" versus the long-term impact on 300 million U.S. citizens. Although I understand and sympathize with those whose timeline may be disrupted, I applaud the OP strongly for saying what (probably) many others believe.

Edited to add: Luckytxn beat me to it with a concise, one-line statement, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
