It's not as simple as you want to make out.

It never is, but genes do play an important role.

By the way, here's one group of scientists who claim that people with parents with certain genetic components are more likely to become entrepreneurs.

Let me guess, you and PH are going to dismiss their research as rubbish.

IS THE TENDENCY TO ENGAGE IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP GENETIC?

ABSTRACT

We used quantitative genetics techniques to compare the entrepreneurial activity of 870 pairs of

monozygotic (MZ) and 857 pairs of same-sex dizygotic (DZ) twins from the United Kingdom. We ran

model fitting analyses to estimate the genetic, shared environmental, and non-shared environmental

effects on the propensity of people to become entrepreneurs. We found relatively high heritabilities for

entrepreneurship across different operationalizations of the phenomenon, with little effect of family

environment and upbringing. Our findings suggest the importance of considering genetic factors in

explanations for why people engage in entrepreneurial activity.

From the same paper:

"...genetic factors influence a variety of business-related outcomes, from job satisfaction (Arvey et al, 1989) to vocational interests (Betsworth et al, 1994), to work values (Keller et al, 1992)...

Arvey, R., Bouchard, T., Segal, N., and Abraham, L. 1989. Job satisfaction: Environmental and genetic components. Journal of Applied Psychology 74(2) 187-192.

Betsworth, D, Bouchard, T., Cooper, C., Grotevant, H., Hansen, J., Scarr, S., and Weinberg, R. 1994.

Genetic and environmental influences on vocational interests assessed using adoptive and biological families and twins reared together and apart. Journal of Vocational Behavior 44 263-278.

Keller, L., Bouchard, T., Arvey, R., Segal, N., and Dawes, R. 1992. Work values: genetic and environmental influences. Journal of Applied Psychology 77(1) 79-88.

Work values! A human construct, imagine that!

Dude, those are titles of papers. The papers could very well say no links were found.

If they are referenced, I would hazard a guess that they supported the primary paper's premise.

Of course, having links posted to go look at those papers would help (I have insomnia and need a good boring read)

If it doesn't exist outside of the human imagination it's not something that can be studied.

Activity versus inactivity can be studied; lazy versus industrious can not.

And yet, it is studied.

According to PH, genetic links to human constructs - such as work values or entrepreneurship - cannot be studied. I proved her wrong.

Typical. Some folks don't want to accept the obvious conclusion that some people just cannot dance, or sing, or make a reverse lay-up.

No, you quite definitely have not. There are actual verifiable human characteristics, and then there are interpretations as to what value these characteristics add to the human condition. Until you are capable of separating the two you'll continue to believe in a fantasy.

What I find is odd, yet again, is that you; of all people, should want to try to prove a relationship between purely human values and genetics. It's most peculiar, you sound more and more like a puritan every day and yet you claim not to believe in god and to be amoral. Curious and curiouser.

They are all psychology papers, the business of psychology is to try to relate human values to human characteristics. It's all very interesting but genetics themselves simply don't deal in values in that way.

I say don't, can't would be more accurate.

This explains why so many French make great cooks, so many Jews make good lawyers, and so many RUB chicks look fricking hot. It's genetics.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
