shutdown and greencards

Hi all,

I just sent my wifes greencard to get her last name changed to mine. I didn't know if anyone knows if this shutdown will affect this aspect of immigration and what (if anything) I can do. Thanks.

Yesterday on the news it said all Passports and Visa will be shut down, in effect government shuts down

Bummer. So if I had sent the information and forms and they arrive tomorrow, and they shut down, will it just delay the processing of my request?

Since no actual PEOPLE will be in the office where your forms will arrive, no action will be taken until they go back to work. These folks may seem like machines but they are flesh and blood.

Bummer!!! Im ready to send my I-130 packet on monday. Tomarrow Im getting the Translated Marriage Certificate and its done. Wondering if I should I wait until after the shutdown??? Thoughts?? So frustrating and I havent even officially filed yet!

By Monday, you'll know whether there even IS a shutdown. Regardless, I'd get in line. Waiting to file won't help you in any way.

I read that USCIS service centers( and its regional offices and application support centers) is expected to operate and continue to adjudicate benefits applications and petitions because they are funded primarily by application fees.Its the visa applications that are most likely not to be processed in case of a shutdown because of the possible closures of consulates.

It's a logical theory but simply isn't true. "I read" carries no weight unless an authoritative source is cited. As reported in this thread, employees at VSC have verbally advised one of our members, in person or by phone (because they are personally acquainted) that they will not be reporting to work during any potential shutdown. That's not just authoritative. It's the horses actual mouth. Speculation can cease.

So why dont we just all wait?You dont know for sure that they will have a shutdown.Unless they officially stop reporting for work then all of our speculations and hearsays are just that...hearsays....

Nobody stopped you from expressing an opinion. I didn't express an opinion. I reported facts from the horse's mouth to correct your opinion. That's what we do here. What would be really "rude" would be to let people continue to believe something that simply isn't true.
