Hi all, My wife and I live in Shenzhen,China. I go to school and my wife teaches. However my wife is from the Philippines. Now I have read a lot about filing overseas and it seems to be quite a difficult and I must be a resident of at least 6 months but I am on a student visa. Is the best thing that I can do just to go back to the US and file the visa and wait on it to get done there? I don't like the idea of leaving my wife alone in our apartment for 6 months to a year but I don't really see any other way to do it? The consulate closest to us will not accept our application. The closest is Hong Kong which is 1 hour and the other is Guangzhou which is 3. Should I just grin and bear it and go back home and wait for my wife?

whoa.

some things to consider:

1. must have usa postal address to receive postal mail - usually a relative or parents suffice.

2. if you've been in china for longer than 6 months, even as a student visa holder - can file DCF'd I-130 (review the DCF guide in the GUIDES section here) and then expect 2 to 4 months of processing time before the interview at GUZ IV.

and a question.

WHY WON'T GUANGZHOU accept yer application?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
