Anybody have any suggestions on where to meet at O'Hare? YuMei is flying in on the 13th at 5:30 pm. I don't live in Chicago, but it is a short drive and I will be meeting her there then driving back to St. Louis. Anyone have some suggestions about where to meet in ORD and where to park?

My last time was at ORD was a year ago, not sure if there have been changes there or not. I was always just passing through to my next terminal. I'd like to save her that chaos and meet her at the terminal and drive back home from there.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

You have to park in the garage, but the closest you can get to her is at the bottom of the escalators going down to baggage claim. you cant go up because its still a secure area. Its fun to get on the escalator look down and see someone waiting for you.

Just curious, why not just fly up? At the least do you plan on staying the night in Chicago? Just thinking back to last year: I took the morning train into downtown, walked around for the day and then took the MTC train to the airport and met in terminal 5. Then we took a flight back to STL together. The other option is the train both ways, but I am not sure how much baggage she is bringing. Haha, I think the best reason for flying back is so that she doesn't see 5 hours of Illinois farmland and think "this is where you brought me to live???". Then again, not sure where your gal is from. Regardless, the international terminal is not bad and there are only two exit doors from immigration so you won't be able to miss her. Good luck!!

Garfield,

I always enjoy your humor. Economies right now. I thought of flying up and back, but too expensive. Yes we'll spend the night in Chicago, then drive back. You had reminded me earlier she would need about a week to recover, so I figure she would sleep all the way through the farmland and I can wake her up when we cross the PSB. Even if she doesn't sleep through it (and who wouldn't) she'll eventually go to Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska to meet more of my family, so she might as well get use to it. Seriously. I have had some employee issues come up that are unavoidable and I need to be back sooner than I antcipated. I had hoped to spend several days in Chicago, but only a night and a few hours.

Thanks,

Rictodd

xxtinaxx,

I arrived in O'Hare two times myself, but always flew through to another city, but I remembered seeing carrs outside of the terminal and thought there maybe a parking lot nearby. I also thought I remembered seeing something about being able to park close by there in a POE review, there are 153 now and I didn't want to look through them all for the few meetings that took place. Thanks again for your info. My third time returning was through Wanye Airport in Detroit, whicj I liked a lot better than O'Hare, but that was before Delta bought Northwest.

anh map,

Thanks. I saw the map and was kind of confused by it. My last entry, I remebered being able to go outside while I waited, then went up the escalator to the tram to travel to my connecting flight. I'm just not sure if you can park outside and enter the small non-secure area there or not.

Carol,

Thanks for the reply. My thoughts are all running together. I remember in Shanghai going down an escaltor to baggage claim and currency exchange after immigration/custom. I thought I remembered in Chicago, after I passed through customs/immigrations I was able to go outside and saw cars traveling trough the area, and a parking area. Maybe, just taxis and shuttle services (I don't remember), maybe an unsecured area. I went up an escaltor to catch the tram going to my connecting flight, but no connecting flight in this case.

Thanks,

Rictodd

If she is arriving on an international flight, you can't possibly park outside and wait - you don't know how long it will take her to get through immigration and secondary. Park in the garage and go meet her in front of the exit doors in terminal 5 (marked as international arrivals).
