I for one congratulate those of you that have employment- Walmart or not; underemployment/underpaid or not. A job is a job and if you do your best at it, that says plenty about the employee.

That post says plenty about the sad state of our economy. How did we get to the point where you seriously want to congratulate the underemployed, the underpaid and even those working at WalMart? Good Lord, America is in some fix.

We are all eventually going to work for either Walmart, or Obamamart.

I sent the TABC (Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission) an email:

My wife has twice been denied use of her green card to purchase beer at

local stores. Once on April 3rd at 7-11 in Carrollton on Sunday night

at:

2145 N Josey Ln

Carrollton TX

And again tonight at:

Racetrac

15196 Marsh Lane

Addison, TX 75001

She is a Thai national and holds a 10 year green card from the United

States Citizenship and Immigration Services. About 3 weeks ago she

attempted to take her written test for a DPS learners permit. She

failed the test and they took her Texas state ID 34578641 for some

reason. On both occasions I went into the store to buy it since she was

denied. On both occasions they refused to sell it to me as well. I

guess they figured it was some type of "straw" purchaser of a 6 pack of

beer. Both merchants stated they would not accept a green card from the

US government, but they would accept an ID from any other state.

Once again she holds a valid I-551 issued from the US government with

her birthday clearly stated on the card.

What's the issue here. Is Texas still part of the U.S.? If there is a

TABC regulation concerning not accepting a "green card" as a valid ID,

can you please point me to the regulation?

And got this response, which is pretty much what someone else posted here:

The law does not require that a person over 21 provide any

identification to purchase alcohol in Texas. But since store clerks,

waitresses, and bartenders can be held criminally liable for selling to

a minor, they often require a government-issued photo ID (military,

state or federal), to prove that the person really is 21.

Section 106.03 of the Alcoholic Beverage Code states that a person who

sells a minor an alcoholic beverage does not commit an offense if the

minor falsely represents himself to be 21 years old or older by

displaying an apparently valid proof of identification that contains a

physical description and photograph consistent with the minor's

appearance, purports to establish that the minor is 21 years of age or

older, and was issued by a governmental agency.

The proof of identification could be a driver's license or

identification card issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety, a

United States passport, a military identification card, or any other

photo ID issued by a state or the federal government.

So a store, bar or restaurant can sell alcohol to a person with an

out-of-state driver's license, military ID, or passport - or with no ID

at all. What's acceptable in any establishment is a matter of that

establishment's private business policies.

So seems like Racetrac and 7-11 are the pr!cks here, not the State of Texas. Oh well, I guess I'll have to get off my lazy a$$ and go buy my own beer if I want it until she gets her drivers license.
