hello everyone !

the requirements of police certificate at the mumbai consulate says that .. the police certificate should show individuals entire period of residence in that particular area .. i have liver in two places within the same country one place for 6yrs and other place rest of my life since i was 18 .. so now getting the exact period of residence mentioned on the police certificate is not possible because i have no proof of duration of my residence in that particular area and without that proof the officials will not issue certificate on which exact peru iod of residence is mentioned ... so now what should i do ??? the officials are saying that they can issue a certificate on which it will be written that you have no criminal record according to their records ... is it really necessary to have those exact dates on the police certificate ???

thank you.

Is a consulate/embassy topic, Police certs not needed when filing an I-129F petition, they are needed at time of interview. Moving...

As for India and police certs:

Police Records Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

  • All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office.
  • Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.
  • Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.
  • Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

One cert covers whole country. Typically "Places" = Countries.

Police Certificates

Who needs to submit a police certificate?

Each visa applicant aged 16 years or older must submit police certificates.

What should I send?

You must submit police certificates which:

* Cover the entire period of the applicant’s residence in that area

* Have been issued by the appropriate police authority

* Include all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s), and the disposition of each recorded case.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html#police

here by saying cover the entire period of residence in that area... by area they mean diff country or diff city ?

Again..

All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office.

It does not say every city, just go to your local office and apply for one.

Places in most countries means "Countries" in some places may mean cities, however India is not one of them.

Exception is in cases where a crime may been committed, then may be required to get a report from the police department where the crime was committed.
