tonia: (11:02) Why would a consular officer want to see just chat log records, as opposed to phone records?

Paul, Consular Officer: (11:02) Chat records let us see the kind of communication a couple has. For example, if the logs only say ''hi, how are you?'' ''I love you soooooo much,'' etc. and do not talk about normal, daily life, it makes a difference. With phone records we are also not 100% sure to whom the phone numbers belong. That being said, we look at both types of records.

tonia (Submitted question): (11:02) Thank you!!!

I might ask them what their position is on "front-loading" a petition - including evidence of a relationship beyond what is required by USCIS in order to give the consulate some prelimnary evidence up front.

I just wanted to say, Tany, that I really admire your attitude through all of this! It's not something seen around here very often.

aww thank you Jenn! Don't get me wrong, it sucks, and its hard, but, what good is being irrational gonna do?? Ouadia and I know what we have, and we know our day will come, and we know the consulate is wrong about us. But, what can we do, but follow the law, and be respectful of what these CO's have on their plates. I can't imagine that the USCIS will deny us, after approving 2 of our petitions, and I think in the end, our relationship will be validated, then we won't have to prove ourselves to anyone anymore!

And even though I would rather have the hubby here, I get to go to morocco again in a couple of months! He'll get here, just for some reason, God says our time isn't now...

Chat is finished :( but that would have been another great question

Tracy: (10:08) Among legitimate marriages, why are some cases approved and some sent back to USCIS?

Paul, Consular Officer: (10:08) Well, we hope that we do not send back any legitimate marriages to USCIS. The Consular officer’s role is to review the totality of each individual case to see if the marriage is only for immigration purposes. If the officer does not believe that the marriage is real, the case gets sent back to USCIS.

This was on facebook today:

Pour toutes vos questions concernant Le processus d’obtention de visas aux Etats Unis, surtout ne ratez pas l’occasion de poser vos question en directe au Consul Américain lors d’un débat en ligne demain a 15 :00h.

The link to enter the chat is: https://statedept.connectsolutions.com/casablanca

(For those non-Francophones, it says: "For all your questions about the visa process to the US, don't miss the occasion to ask your questions directly to the American Consul on an online chat at 3:00pm (Morocco time).)

WHOO HOO.

Anyone want me to ask something for them? I only have one short question but will ask if anyone can't make it.

Peace!

K

How often do they hold this kind of chat? Do you know?

It sounds like they think, "we are not approving because we don't think the relationship is genuine" counts as explaining the reason for the denial. I don't believe they get into WHY they don't think the relationship is genuine.

You hit the nail on the head Jenn. But what we want to know is what was said that made them think that in the first place?

I would love to talk to them, tell them that my husband and I are one of the couples that were denied, and that we are still together now. So maybe rather than just sending them back, perhaps give them a reason they doubt it, and one chance to prove their assumptions are wrong before they send it back. I know we could have given them what they needed if only they would have given us the opportunity. This simple thing could save the grief of real couples, as well as reduce the backlog the USCIS has.

I don't suppose that's something you'd consider putting in an email to them, or perhaps calling them sometime to share?

Could not agree more!

Great chat - I just wanted to add that although people think consular officers are untrained etc their training is very extensive. I don't know if anyone else has taken the foreign service exam but I have. I have an MBA and BA in International Relations. I didn't pass the foreign service exam and I do know my stuff! After that there is an intensive specific training people must take based on where in the foreign service they are going to go. It's not a cake walk at all.
