Well I agree that alot of people out there are only using the USC for geen cards, if the US citizen knows it or not.

Just makes me sad that these people do it all the time, and the people who are true, and are truly in love, it really effects them! longer processing times, as there is more applications, and then the USCIS are on more of a high alert as they see it all the time. and gives us more of a hard time.

I know we cant stop them, nor change their minds when they have it in their head they are going to do it. just good luck to all the people who a re truly in love, and best of luck!

Generally speaking, one should really know their life partner before getting married. Thus, I am basically against importing someone from a country, far, far away whom you have just met once or twice before. I dated my wife for more than a year before she moved in with me. We waited another year before I proposed, and then again another year before we got married. I understand that this is not possible with a foreign partner, but the horror stories you are referring to are proof that you don't really know somebody until you had the chance to get to know him (or her), in person, in various situations in life, including stress situations.

Regarding your example, you are suggesting that the Turkish "gentleman" should have told his now wife that he only wanted to marry her for immigration benefits. Aside from this making her guilty of a crime, immigration fraud (up to 5 years in prison and $250K fine), I don't think she would have played along, and rightfully so.

Trust me, since USCIS introduced the ROC process, this has eliminated a lot of marriages for Green Card only.

I agree with Bob, on this forum time after time we see someone wanting to get married and they have only met like once and then calim to be so much in love and everything is perfect.

Most regular user here have always asked ppl to refrian from such behavior and adviced to take your time get to know each other and them make the deicision.

For one of the spouse you will be leaving your home, your friends, your family everything and to make this dicision you have to make sure you can work with your spouse and you two work well togeather.

Also working and living in US is very different so one has to be prepared for it as well.

Anyone who would marry solely for a green card needs their head examined. Not that the process is terrible if you love someone and want to spend your life in the US with them, but it's not an easy nor short process. Between the costs, the interviews, the paperwork, the uncertainty...(the mishaps and potential for things to go wrong) I don't know why anyone would put themselves through it outside of bonafides.

Right. Well my point is it is a complicated costly and time consuming process. But glad to give a laugh.

Thanks, but the only country I can visit right now is Canada, since I can drive there, trips to 3rd world countries aren't possible unless they allow me to fly free. We don't have cable in this house, too expensive. Not all of America is rich.

Fairy tale view of the world? Pff, I don't even have a fairy tale view of America let alone the rest of the world. Pittsburgh is not far behind Detroit coming in at 5th poorest city in the US, and while I know poor in America is different than 3rd world poor, try keeping your house heated in the winter.

Your point is well taken, and from the perspective of someone living in a western country it's 100% accurate. But, you said you didn't understand why someone would go through this time consuming and costly process if their motives weren't pure. Poverty and desperation are more than enough to motivate someone.

most of the time it's the petitioner who pays majority of the costs.

And the petitioner who signs up to be financially responsible for the person they sponsor. Perhaps I should have said the petitioner would need their head examined. I'm sure people are being used for a green card, I personally couldn't imagine wanting to go through all this if I didn't love my husband, but I never questioned his motives as he isn't from a 3rd world country. Fair enough..

And I'm looking forward to another $450 gone due to his 10 yr GC being lost in the mail. Fun times.

If the GC was lost in the mail, are we responsible to pay 450 for replacement, because if that is the case it might take us while to come up with 450. GC still hasn't arrive in the mail yet got me a little worried.

That is what they are telling us over the phone. I'm calling our congressman and see if there is any help possible to get that fee waived, chances are probably slim. If it is returned to the USCIS they will mail it back free of charge is my understanding,. If it is determined lost, and not returned, they say too bad, you have to check the option in the I-90 which makes you responsible for paying for another to be sent.

But if you call and get a CSR willing to provide you with tracking you might be able to see where it is at. They implemented the SMI.

But I will add, do not panic yet. I wasn't concerned until the tracking info came up that it arrived at our PO but wasn't delivered for some reason although I get every other scrap of mail.

No help from the PO either. They say the sender has to file a lost mail report.
