Generally speaking, one should really know their life partner before getting married. Thus, I am basically against importing someone from a country, far, far away whom you have just met once or twice before. I dated my wife for more than a year before she moved in with me. We waited another year before I proposed, and then again another year before we got married. I understand that this is not possible with a foreign partner, but the horror stories you are referring to are proof that you don't really know somebody until you had the chance to get to know him (or her), in person, in various situations in life, including stress situations.

Regarding your example, you are suggesting that the Turkish "gentleman" should have told his now wife that he only wanted to marry her for immigration benefits. Aside from this making her guilty of a crime, immigration fraud (up to 5 years in prison and $250K fine), I don't think she would have played along, and rightfully so.

Trust me, since USCIS introduced the ROC process, this has eliminated a lot of marriages for Green Card only.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

If I tried to make sense of the senseless I think I would go insane. So I would suggest not reading the horror stories and focus on the ones that are more applicable to you and yours.

M&S Forever - except for getting the green card fraudulently (mutual agreement), I totally agree with you! Would be so nice if people tried to help each other out, make each others' lives better, be kind, be good and have good morals and good character. But to use people, to hurt people, to hurt people's hearts and souls, to lie to someone who trusts you and loves you - it's terrible. It's nice to hear from others with good hearts like yours :) I love hearing this point of view!!!

totally have to agree with JUST BOB, u met a person once r twice and think u know that person.someone can tell you whatever they want over the net r phone. as long as i'm not seeing you everyday r have to sleep with you. USC needs to be very careful when meeting ppl over the net, no-one is going to tell u they just want to use you to get to the u.s. so they'll tell you everything pleasant under the sun. i can tell you i love you but i don't have to mean it, then when these ppl get in your country and get what they want, you r left brokenhearted but they r not, because they really never cared about you in the first place.they don't know you so they have no feelings for you, it sounds bad but thats it, i have been with my fiance 3 yrs b4 he filed.i think its important to gt to know the person your with very well b4 jump and make a promise to spend life with that person,Jamaicans have a saying that goes, 'seeing me and living with me is two different thing" and thats so true!!!! he lived in ja as an expat for 2 yrs and we lived together for one yr and now have a beautiful daughter. and i'm sure i want to spend the rest of my life with him, cause i know the wonderful person he is.

i really do not understand the point of this post.why generalize?just because one turkish husband was an idiot that doesnt make every other turkish man a green card digger.

if you are so sure about your relationship that youre going through this process, you shouldnt let another persons foolishness change your view or get you all worked up

I agree with Just Bob. looking deep before u leap is a good thing. I also dated my husband for almost 2 years before getting engaged then we got married six months later. I am surprised by pple meeting once or twice and getting married. You need a lot of time to get to know each other and that takes a lot of dates. just my piece of mind here.

I see people getting ready to start this stressful process after meeting their partner only once, its crazy. I strongly suggest older American women to think twice before falling for these foreign young dudes, specially from high fraud countries.

Why wouldn't the warning also apply to so many older American males falling for these foreign young girls?
