Government Shutdown?

"The American Department of State is primarily responsible for the "back end" of the U.S. Immigration process as most immigrant visa and K-1 visa applications for loved ones abroad must be adjudicated by a United States Embassy or United States Consulate with appropriate Consular jurisdiction. Before a visa application can be adjudicated at a US Mission abroad it must first process through the United States National Visa Center. The reason that the NVC and the US Missions abroad are being mentioned in this article is due, in part, to the fact that were a government shutdown to occur processing of visa applications at NVC and US Missions abroad could effectively cease :o until such time as the controversy in the USA is resolved and the US government "reopens" for business. Therefore, those with pending visa matters before the United States immigration apparatus should be prepared for possible delays in the visa process should the United States government shutdown."

I double checked with a family member who works at State just to make sure.

All Visa related functions cease during a shutdown. Only diplomatic and emergency services remain open and almost every embassy and consulate is emptied (minus required people for above 2 services).

Shutdown is a political topic. Last time this happened .GOV workers got a week off, then back to normal.

November 14 through November 19, 1995 and from December 16, 1995 to January 6, 1996

That's 28 days, which is 4 weeks, not 1.

Yeah! It's very important to alert the public to a very small fraction of the population's inconvenience! Much more relevant that shutting down national parks in nice weather or amazing things to see like the Smithsonian. And screw the CA K1ers - obviously they aren't inconvenienced enough.

Sorry - I had to have a lil fun with your post - all these threads are cracking me up :P

Aren't you cute. If you understood a fraction of how twitter actually worked, you'd know no one is "screwing" the CA K1ers at all, whatsoever. the hashtag #K1Vermonters is already ever present on twitter and has been for the past few weeks. The momentum would get lost if the hashtag were changed. Specifically, I suggested that any and all legal immigrants tack onto the hash tag that was already started with the opinion they wanted to voice. What the hashtag is actually called doesn't really matter. The message that goes along with the hashtag is what matters. All the hashtag does is provide a link to group similar tweets together. The hash-tag could say "#Fart" for all I care. It's the message that is important.

So now I have to thank you, in return, for the laugh. Your attempt at a cut down cracked me up.

If the government shutdown does occur, that would be an excellent time to add "#K1Vermonters #GovernmentShutdown" to all of your tweets. Believe you me it's going to trend like wildfire on Twitter.

just sayin

I apologize if I am way more concerned about my company's VA patients not being able to receive their home health care (about 10 home bound patients on ventilators who are seen 3x a day) than a blip on a timeline. Sorry!

in the grand scheme of things what does a delay of a few days or even a few weeks really equate to a k1'er?

geez ... it's not as if the k1'ers are going to be forced to spend the rest of their lives living apart. i pity the couple that can't wait a few more days ... versus those with needs as you've posted above.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid just announced this morning on the Senate floor that now the GOP isnt only pushing for cuts but for Abortion and EPA Regulation reform as well! If some people werent stubborn and willing to compromise this could be avoided. Boehner and the GOP leadership need to be willing to take some concessions

They have been pushing for that from the start. Hardly new.

And you agree with a partisan agenda superseding any compromise on budget reform?

Dunno how me pointing out a clear fact that has been stated in the news since this all began is agreeing with partisan politics.

Seeing as how I would be furloughed because of this petty bullsh*t, along with 800,000+ other employees, I want them to grow the **** up, make the damn compromise, stop thinking compromise is weak and move on to the next damn years budget as this year (Fiscal) is half over.

Both sides are to blame and both sides can burn in **** for all i care.
