From what I can peruse, kaon, from a non-English Zen practitioner, is meaningless? A pinay indeed is a Philipino female, however a pinoy is a gay Philipino male. Still, this doesn't make sense given the above OP's scenerio. I think I would agree, that we need more information, however it looks like he's being used for immigration purposes!

Carla (F)

Ummmmmmm....correction: Pinay is indeed a term use for a Filipino women and Pinoy is indeed a term use for Filipino men...not a "gay" as you said

if she's from the US or some industrialized nation...it would just be a simple matchmaking by the aunt but since she's from the Philippines...it's a case of fraud.

as much as fraudulent relationships exist...genuine relationships also do...so it's all up to you to really find out what's up.

(Pinoy, male Filipino...could be straight/gay/bisexual...Pinay, female Filipino...could also be straight/gay/bisexual)

your pinoy co-workers are just telling you that there are those who will marry any US citizen for a chance to get here...but on the other hand...there are also those who want a husband and/or wife who loves and respects them in return.

Fate is building a bridge of chance for the one you love...

I would say yes it is common for some people to bad mouth others and stop them from being happy. In the Philippines there is an expression I do not know in togoulg but in English it is something like a Crab grabbing you and dragging you into their dark hole for company. I.e. their life sucks so why should you be happy.

As to why she offered up her relative ??? I work all over the world and it is very common if you are a reasonable person, a nice person to be offered a relative of a coworker for marriage. In many societies it is a very common way to find a partner. Are you reasonable and nice??? If you do not consider yourself so then I would question the OP motives. You have a good working relationship with this women so it would appears she finds you acceptable and therefore thinks she has a good match for you, how unreasonable can that be???

Good Luck

We call it "crab mentality". It's wishing or saying bad things to people who happens to find good fortune. It's part of Filipino culture so don't mind it, firewalker.

I suspected that divorce rate is lower among Fil-Am couples but can you provide the link please? That would be an interesting read. I think that our American partners find the nurturing nature of Filipina women very appealing. And I believe we are easy to please since coming from a poor country, anything over and above what we have here in the Philippines is considered an abundant blessing that we should be very thankful for.

I have to agree with that. My wife doesn't care if something came from the $1.00 store or Macy's if she likes it.

I'm normally the one telling her not to buy something because it's junk and to spend more on something that will last.

I love the 99 cents store! I'm still using the $.99/dozen hangers I bought from them in 2002.

And we don't like throwing away food, it's considered sacrilegious. We "reincarnate" and "resurrect" left-over food until there's nothing left of it :o Agreed, mdyoung?

Yeah there could be two spoonfuls of mashed potatoes left and she will put it in a Rubbermaid bowl and put in the refrigerator. Then a week later I wind up throwing it out.
