I-134 Question

Hi guys,

Got my interview in 3 weeks. Going through the list of needed documents for the 600th time... I actually notice the bit about I-134. I read the bit about the sponsor declaration not applying to K1s, but never saw the bit about I-134. Dang.

My fiancée doesn't meet poverty quite, but her mom said she's fine to sponsor. However, with the interview so close, I'm not 100% sure a form will get to the UK in time.

So, I know copies of the supporting documents (tax return, etc) are fine, but would a copy of the actual signed I-134 suffice to, or would that need to be the original signed sheet?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Knowing other embassies - they require certain forms to have original signatures - I-134 being one of them.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Have you considered self sponsoring?

I have no idea how to self sponsor, couldn't find anything looking around after work yesterday. I don't have a ton of savings or anything, so I doubt I'd qualify anyway.

I've asked my fiancée to get her mum to sign an I-134 (which she has said yes to) and send it to me this thursday - express, it should get here by the 27th. Let's hope, huh?

Hey there,

If your fiancee's mum send the stuff off Thursday - you should be absolutely fine. I sent mine Express via USPS (from California to London), and it got to him in about 4 days.

Interview in 3 weeks = you'll be perfect :)

Edited to add: Express with tracking, that is. Cost me bloody $40 but it was worth it :)

I sent my fiance my 134 stuff via regular UPS mail and it made it in 7 days. I think you will be good!

09-10-10 | Sent 129F to Texas lockbox

09-13-10 | NOA1 received

02-03-11 | NOA2 finally received

02-08-11 | NOA2 hardcopy

02-17-11 | NVC received

02-25-11 | Consulate received

And the worst case scenario is that they basically approve your visa pending receipt of the actual signed I-134, so really nothing to worry about.
