the passport clearance from bhopal will take just one day .. but the police clearance certificate from the local police office depends on the particular office ..

My wife's passport is issued just last week so I don't think I need certificate from the local police office

Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.

local police office certificate will just take a day or two .. it is better to be prepared with everything at the interview .. because you never know ..what they might ask you at the embassy ..

What's the process like? You fill up "Form No. 2" from following

http://passport.gov.in/cpv/Forms.htm

Submit this + fee (How much ?) to Passport office in Bhopal and then the will give you right then or will ask you to come later the same day or the next day?

I am asking as in my case I need to travel to Bhopal to get it so I can go prepared for this?

as per the DOS (NVC) website it is asking you to get the PCC from the local passport office, click this link and scroll down and it will tell you on how to obtain a PCC in India so guys stop confusing everyone with so many different answers when there are clear instructions on NVC website.

only you need PCC from the local passport office since they have all the information.

as per the DOS (NVC) website:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_4881.html?cid=3582

as per the US Embassy Chennai website:

http://chennai.usconsulate.gov/immigrantstous/glossary-of-iv-documents-and-terms.html#PCC

this is consistent, one PCC from the local Passport office serving your address. That is how I understood it, not sure why so much confusion.
