Earlier in this process my husband filled out the DS230 and answered yes to wanting a SS card and #. Now that he is in the states I am trying to find out do we have to submit anything else, because I assumed that would be all needed. Our local SSA don't have the information hitting there system yet, so they want us to give it a little more time. They don't want to risk giving my husband 2 #s. Does this seem correct? Have anyone experience this?

No problem, just make sure his name is on the mail box!

We had problems getting mail for me when I arrived in the US because my name was not on the box.

Seems silly but it will save you time and frustration to stick it on there.

When my husband and I went to the SS office, they told us it would take 8 weeks. My husband entered the state of Cali 2/12/11 and it still hasn't arrived yet. The PO has all of whom lives here and still no card. Hate to be a downer, but I wish I knew before that it would take this long...his GC came so quickly I just knew the SS card would come right after, but I was wrong. I'll pray for you and your husband, please pray for me and mine

Fela's girl I hope you are on top of the game with the SSN thingy. I submitted a post earlier where I said the filling out the the DS-230 form for the SSN doent seem to hold much water. for now at least.

Pls visit your local SSA, take the passport along that shows the temporary I-551 stamp, pick a form and a waiting number, fill out the form while waiting for your number to be called. I did that 3 days after I got here and I got my SSN 7 days after I got here.

Also, as per sticking your hubby's name on the mailbox...well, this could also do the trick: write out his address as being in care of your own name, followed by the full address.

example: John Bayo Bala

c/o Sisi Laraba

xxxxx US STREET

And co, USA.

This piece of info that my hubby lacked when he came here 6years ago, gave his GC a one year sojourn b4 he finally received it after being advised of that addressing format at an Infopass appointment!

So when I came in, he just wldnt rest on how i fill out those addresses! it had to be in C/O!! Worked for us so far.

All the best pple!

Driving test tomorrow. Oh i pray i pass this this one time.

I checked off the box on the DS-230 asking for a SSN, but received nothing after 3 weeks. When I went into the office this week they had no record of me and had to do a new application request. This kind of thing does seem to be hit or miss.
