"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

How much staff does a doctor employ to do nothing but deal with the fragmented insurance system? How much staff do insurers employ to do nothing but face off against the staff at the doctors offices? How much staff do insurers employ for product development, risk assessment, marketing, underwriting, etc.? And then you have the profits on top of all that. That's the least of the problem. The red tape that we have allowed to build up in our health care system is what adds significantly to the cost. All cost and no value as far as the eye can see.

It's still not THE problem. It's A problem.

You have forgotten another money waster, defensive medicine. Doctors will test for things they don't need to just to ward off the one in a million chance of missing something. In addition to SP we need torte reform. Limit lawsuits to actual damages. Cap pain and suffering awards. Punish those that abuse the system with junk lawsuits.

I'm on board with that as long as we ensure that the results of medical malpractice as well as the procedure itself is fully covered by the offending physician, as long as real economic damages to the victim are properly compensated, as long as any such occurrence doesn't jeopardize an individual's ability to obtain health care coverage down the road and as long as we abolish fee-for-service at the same time. The fear of medical malpractice lawsuits is one of the elements that triggers unnecessary procedures. The incentive to provide these additional procedures for additional fees is the other. Both need to be addressed.

Yes, it's A problem. It accounts for something in the range of 20% of our health care spending. For my family, that's approximately $2,500.00/ year or thereabout. It's a good start, isn't it? Get the free riders taken care of and there's bit to be saved. Then address the fee-for-service and the medical malpractice issue and pretty soon, we'll be in line with the rest of the industrialized world.

Are you willing to kill an entire industry, just for a single payer system in this country?

Yes.

You haven't said one intelligent thing yet in posting the last couple of days.

Who died and appointed you the God of Intellect?

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.
