tax transcript question

Greetings all, just getting things together for near future filing.

do you have to have tax transcript for evidence. or are ordinary tax returns adequate.

Either is fine, they both show proof of joint filing of tax returns over the 3 years of LPR status.

thanks, i see the word OR now, I could get a tax transcript, just unsure what it is.

Tax transcripts are summaries of your whole tax return provided free by the IRS. You can order three years at a time.

If you call 1-800-908-9946 (the transcript line) , there is an automated system for ordering transcripts. You'll have to enter your Social Security number and the numbers of your street address. It will generate an automated request to mail your transcripts. Mine came in a week.

It is best to get the transcripts as if you provide returns you also need to provide the accompanying W2s and schedules, whereas with the transcript you don't :-)

We called 1-800-908-9946 (see the IRS website ) and got them in 1 week!

It was fast. Ordered from 2007 to 2010 (only need 3 last years, I got 2007 just in case).
