My fiance lives in Guilin and works in Yangshuo, She can find a good working headphone in most internet cafes, and calls me using Skype, I have Skype-out and it is configured to forward calls to my cellphone when I am off line.

We talk PC-PC for free, and PC to phone for 0.021 per minute. cheapest way to go.

I use www.dynasky.com If you are able to use one of their local access numbers the rate is two cents per minute. If you use their toll-free number, the cost is four cents per minute. I have used it for months and it is great. Also, their web site keeps a record of all of your calls. I will be using this as part of proof of ongoing relationship.

If your internet connection is through cable, consider switching your home phone service to iTalkbb. It is a VOIP service like Vonage. So far it has been great service for me. I just switched from Vonage. The advantage is calls to China are free and you get a toll free number that anyone in China can call for free that connects to your home phone number.(with the Unlimited calling plan for about $25/month). It works both ways no problem (after you learn to dial the correct toll free number). You can pm me and I can give you more details and maybe save you some money. This is cheaper than any home phone service I can get around here, plus I don't have to buy any more calling cards.

This is very interesting... How is the sound quality, especially calls made from China to your VoIP # Sigen?

The call quality both ways is as good as your gonna get. Much better than skype or other free viop's. We still use skype quite a bit since we don't have to hold the phones on skype, but I can hear her much better on my phone. I can't tell a difference between myself initiating the call vs. her calling me. As with only call, sometimes you get a bad connection. Restarting the call usually fixes the problem, but lately I have not experienced any bad connections.

This is a very good deal. If we weren't so net connected, I'd definitely go for this deal.

For Keith: Try ecallchina.com. I have used them for US to China calls before, but I think they have cards for inside the country, too.

For others that are interested in a good VOIP service over broadband, I strongly recommend Packet 8 (www.packet8.net). I pay $50 per month for unlimited calling to China. I have not seen any other package like this one, and the voice quality is great. I use my regular phone just like Vonage.

And no, I am not going to receive any kickbacks for referring anyone. :-)

Qiao, I think iTalk is cheaper:

It's $25/month and it's unlimited calls to China, as well as China to you in the US.
