Hi everyone,

As we are gathering evidence of our relationship me and my girlfriend, we were wondering if the fact that I send all my texts, emails, and chats in french would be a problem? Do we need to translate that or the fact that it show communication between us would be enough?

I do plan to translate my birth certificate and other official document.

And I have read that I can translate those document myself...Really ?

I think all they need to know is that you can communicate in the same language, and it doesn't have to be necessarily english.

And I have read that I can translate those document myself...Really ?

I am interested in this question also. As far as I know, you can translate them yourself but they need to be notarized (this is what a certified translator told me). I am waiting for further replies from someone who knows best though. :)

Below is an example format for what many have submitted. The certified translator? is wrong about notarizing. It isnt required. A notary verifies signatures not content.

You can see what is meant by the term Certification when it is applied here.

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________

Date Typed Name

Address

All official correspondence is done in English. If you want others to be able to read your emails, then a translation is required.
