How many threads have been started here about Stalin or the KKK? How many threads have there been about everyday Muslims who aren't terrorists? When there is a discussion about Muslims or Islam, is it negative or positive, and why? This isn't a matter of being offended. It's a matter of how I don't just give lip service to how most Muslims arent terrorists, I go beyond that. Others, not so much. I don't feel a need to get in their box.

First, I'd like to say I'm not a religious person. Outside of what I learned as a child and what I've learned from speaking to others from different religious backgrounds, I've only had one class on world religions and one class on religious philosophy. I know some about a lot of religions, but I don't know a ton about any of them. I do think it's important to know/understand what's happened in the past, but right now we're talking about the present.

Why do you always bring up "bad" things Christians did a long time and compare them to things Muslim terrorists have done very recently? Are Christians actually still doing these same things today and I just don't know about it? From what I see, Muslim terrorists are doing things today that were "acceptable" or "normal" in Christianity a long f'ing time ago.

Can you explain to me why something Christians did a long time ago can be compared to something Muslim terrorists are doing today? It seems like Christianity has modernized for the most part, and the groups of Muslims who are doing these terrible things have not.

and since 2001, americans have unequivocally shown that they have absolutely no problem whatsoever with literally tens of thousands of afghan women and children being put through a meat grinder, in the name of "liberating" afghanistan. if that's not murderous extremism, i don't know what is. mass murdering drone strikes are as fcuked up as any afghan murder spree. you'll find more outrage over reporting of an abused dog or cat than you'll ever find over an afghan toddler blown to pieces in a us airstrike though.

The comment I was responding to was about the body count. If you're honest about which religion has murdered more people throughout history, Christians win, hands down. Our military is one of a predominantly Christian nation that has spent the last couple of decades killing Muslims in order to "save" them. I live a hop, skip and jump from the Air Force Academy in CO Springs where it's commonplace that military members are harassed if non-Christian and strongly encouraged to become Christian. Don't tell me that the violence in Jesus' name stoppedcenturies ago; it didn't. It just goes without saying. Besides, ignoring Christian violence past or present may make one feel superior, but, by any name, it fools only a few.

Celebrating the near decapitation of an infant and the stabbing deaths of little kids as well as their parents while they slept in their beds by passing out candy is not an act of terrorism. It is pure evil.

It's from a speech, duh. Speeches are full of hyperbole. The same thing is said of the US military, that thousands of men are enjoined in a blood lust toward hatred of Muslims and set loose on Muslim lands to kill and maim in an ongoing holy war that hasn't ended since the Crusades. How can you prove them wrong when it's true that for much of our lifetimes, western forces have colonialized, exploited, raped and murdered on Muslim lands? A recent trial of soldiers convicted of murdering an Afghan family for sport, one re killing an Iraqi family so their daughter could be raped, rendition of a Canadian man who innocently entered American airspace on a business trip only to be taking hostage and tortured as a terrotist in a third country at the behest of our government, high ranking military officers who give speeches to conservative groups calling Islam a scourge that must be wiped out, US policy that has uncritically supported Israel and numerous dictators in the Muslim world while scolding Arabs for not embracing democracy.

These examples and more are part of a long list of resentments that you turn a blind eye to because you are very selective about what you want to know. When you're told something in your media, you believe what you've been told to believe. Like Pavlov's dogs, you are conditioned to react appropriately, without even thinking. The art of war requires that before you kill, your people must be conditioned to believe the enemy to be inhuman, barbaric, less worthy of life because they dont value life, as you do. You have learned that well, and are easily able to reflect it back, despite having no personal experience or knowledge of your own about the people you despise. Your curiousity has been surplanted with propaganda. You have become a mere tool, carrying a message you cannot independently substantiate. You would make a good terrorist, because you have gone through the same brainwashing they go through and passed.

And, you call yourself a Christian. Shame on you for making Jesus weep.

Does it ever occur to you that you only get bad news about Muslims, and wonder why the media is so one sided? Even you admit that most Muslims aren't bad, so why are bad Muslims the only bad group getting so much press?

maybe because they are disproportionately responsible for heinous crimes against the body? maybe because they engage in forms of ritual murder that most cultures forsook centuries ago? maybe it's because they hide their murderous impulses behind a false god? maybe it's because they display a total intolerance toward all non-muslims while simultaneously demanding that everyone else tolerate their outrageous behaviour?

maybe they earned the bad press. maybe not even chimpy can keep the heat off of them.

in taliban times little girls do not learn to read and write. they don't grow up into women who argue about whether muslims are nice or not on the internet. if you were born there and then you wouldn't be wasting VJ bandwidth.
