Hello there. Do you guys think that I can fill out this application myself or should I hire a Lawyer instead, to be honest, I don't have too much money right now but I really love to have my fiance here to marry her by the end of this year.

Also let me know if this is something that I can do myself, what else do I need to send along with the form & the money order.

Perhaps pictures of both of us, plane tickets, photocopies of my passport, please help !!! BEST REGARDS

Hi, you've posted in the wrong section so you probably won't get many replies here but somebody will come along and move your thread to the right section.

But yes it something you can do yourself. Here you can start by reading the guides: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

There are the G-325A forms you need for both of you and signatures. Then there's the letter of intent from both of you that you want to marry. The I-129F form. You need passport photos of each of you. Evidence of relationship and meeting, like pictures, receipts, phone calls etc. Fee and all that stuff and then you need to package it up. Its not hard but lots of things to do. There's some more details but thats enough to give you an idea, for now.

Good Luck!

I was nervous too about paperwork. I hired a lawyer, but soon realized it was just a middle man taking money to take longer. So I found this website and started doing it all myself. Start here www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide This site has everything you need, and so much support.

I agree with the vj fellows about doing it yourself approach. This site s all you need. Go carefully through guides and example forms. This was our cover letter to i-129f and the petition was approved last week:

Enclosed please find my Form I-129F, Petition for K-1 Fiancée Visa for 'Name' (beneficiary), and supporting documents.

Contents include:

- Payment.

- I-129F

- Explanation of meeting in person

- G-325A and passport style photo (petitioner)

- G-325A and passport style photo (beneficiary)

- Naturalization certificate/US Passport (petitioner)

- Letter certifying intent to marry (petitioner and beneficiary)

- Proof of having met in person in the past two years

- Written letter explaining the relationship and marriage plans optional

- Proof of ongoing relationship (mostly emails, skype logs)

Doing it yourself not only ll save you $$ but also will make you familiar with the process and you ll be more confident about the parts.

Of course it applies if you have a clean case, like nothing unusual (criminal record etc.), then you better ger professional assistance.

Good luck !

Honestly, if you have a pretty simple case, you are better off doing it yourself! At this point, all a lawyer can do is fill the forms in with the information you give them. The guides and especially the example forms are a great resource, as are all the members here! I was able to do it myself and I have zero attention span and no prior knowledge of anything immigration! Save your money! You'll need it for the fees in the process! Good luck and welcome to VJ!

We filed our I-129F petition by ourselves and we made it. This site is helpful, just spend more time here to find some information then you'll be smart by yourselves, you could solve your case by yourselves. Ask and read here. Trust me this site is so helpful.

We even had two RFE and this site and members here took a significant role to solve it. Dont hesitate to ask.

I also contemplated using a lawyer, but my fiancee and I managed to put our petition together without any issues. Nothing complicated, especially with the guides and guidance found here.

As someone else mentioned, if your case is relatively simple (no visa overstays in the past, no criminal record) it's really not that difficult. The difficult part is waiting once you've filed - which is inevitable regardless whether you use a lawyer's services or not.

If you do decide to use a lawyer, beware ANY of them that promise specific processing times or guarantees of when you'll be approved. They have zero control over any of it once it has been submitted.

Like everyone else has said you don't need a lawyer. This site is amazing  read the guide and if you have any question use the search forum (everything I had a question about already had lots of threads about it) and if you are unsure about something post and ask.
