I would like to do a K1 Visa for my fiancee, and while it seems stright forward enough I would like to enlist some professional help. Not necessarily a lawyer, just someone who know what they are doing and can avoid mistakes that can add time to the process.

Has anyone here used such a service that they were happy with. Maybe one that has a good reputation and is priced fiarly.

If there is a list of such services somewhere on the site could someone please point me in that direction.

Thank you.

The best help you actually can find is in this forum since we all are going through the same process.

Read, read and read and you will find all the answeres on your questions and what still you can´t find the answers for, so just open a new thread and ask and you for sure will get some helpful advices.

Believe me, it´s not that difficult to file for a K-1 visa but it will need you to have some strong nerves and a huge portion of patience.

We had thought about asking a lawyer or visa service to do all the paperwork for us but now since we hopefully will get approved before too long we have seen it wasn´t hard to do it all on our own at all and we are glad we didn´t have to spend so much money on them.

What sucks the most about this procss is the long waiting times until something happens at all and until you will get approved - especially if your case will get transfered to CSC. We originally have filed in TCS too.

So welcome on VJ and good luck for you guys on this exciting journey

Hi,

i'm not sure about professional help on the site. I have not started my visa processing yet. I have found, however that by reading the faq's and guides on this website, has given me immense help and invaluable information on forms, processing etc. I'd say read all the relevant information that's prevalent to the K1 visa and if you are unsure or stuck, post a question. There are alot of people on this forum, myself not included! :P , who are a great source of information!!!

Even if you do choose to use a visa service, the best thing you can do is to become as familar with the whole process as you can. This way, you can anticipate potential problems, or recognize when something is 'out of kilter'. Knowing what is involved as well gives you a sense of control (as much as anyone can have a sense of control when dealing with USCIS!) because you won't have to worry whether the service is doing a good job for you or not - you will know. Good luck.

(We did the whole process ourselves without a lawyer or a visa service and had no problems - just a lot of reading!)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I wouldn't recommend you wasting money to have someone help you with this process ... The whole process is very simple if you follow the directions and if you are unsure of something just post it here and you will get all of the answers ...

The only problem you may find on VJ is that some of the vets seems to have no patience and will make rude posts regarding when you ask what they consider "simple" or "stupid" questions ... But usually someone will come in behind them and explain things better ... The people here on VJ really are wonderful and our a fountain of information ... What better people to tell you how to file the packages then people who have already been through that phase of the process and can share their experiences ...

I was worried about this process and making sure I got all of the paperwork right ... But the people of VJ really made it easy for me ...

Jeff,

I've heard many people, including immigration attornies, say that Catholic Charities can be a good source of help.

Don't overlook attornies. Many people seem to think that the only way to use an attorney is to retain them to work on a case, but simply having a consultation with an experienced immigration attorney can be a very worthwhile and inexpensive way to accomplish the objective that you mention.

Everyone on this site will be very supportive and helpful. If you find that you actually need professional help, that is always available before you actually file the papers. After filing, the professional help is a little more difficult to provide actual assistance.

I would recommend that you post the facts of your case for the members to peruse. You don't need to give names and actual cities, just general so you can have some confidentiality. Following the guidelines here is of course a great start. If you don't understand something, post a note and the members will give you advice. From what I've read so far you are getting some pretty good advice.

The most beneficial advice so far is to be patient. This is a long process and the frustration level is very high. The California service center (CSC) is handling 3/4 of the countries K-1 applications and the centers in Nebraska and Texas are forwarding these to California. So, naturally that center has slowed down immensely.

Also, make sure you are filing the most recent forms. There is a new law that went into effect in March 2006 which changed all of the forms. It is called IMBRA and refers to the marriage broker industry but everyone is subject to this.

Take your time and be thorough. Haste makes waste.

I would not spend any money at all...I made a few of the so called "mistakes" and got approved anyways. As long as the info is there and there aren;t any red flags you should be able to do it yourself. Look at the examples in visajourney and that should be enough
