father-in-law marrying daughter-in-law's mother? legal?

i don't think its weird at all... *shrugs*.

i have cousins (2 brothers) that married 2 sisters. two other cousins (sisters with a big age gap) are married to a father and son.

its not incest or anything strange or illegal because they are no blood relation. and i don't feel that its in any way immoral.

if two adults wanna get married, what's the big deal? why would it be illegal?

marriage doesn't mean that all the various in-laws become BLOOD relations and therefore are off-limits...

I find myself just curious as to why anyone would think it was odd for 2 sisters to marry 2 brothers, specifically. A boy and a girl meet, fall in love. Their families get together to get to know one another. The brother of the groom takes a shine to the brides sister, and she feels the same...I fail to see anything wrong with that, as they are just 2 people who happened to meet each other, but each to their own I guess! :) M.

I know of a family similar. The daughter and son got married, and unbeknownst to them, during all the hullaballoo of the wedding preparations, her mother and his father were gettin' it on. They got married like a year later.

And that's not even the strange part! The Mother still is "friends" with her ex-husband, so whenever he comes back to visit, he and his new wife stay at their house. And her new husband is quite ok with that.

And they all live on the same block. All the kids, there's 3 houses all in a row, all family.

In and of itself, each of those scenarios is not particularly "strange" per se. Until you meet the family and its just really creepy how *close* they all are

I do not think it odd at all... but I have to say that I find it not OK that the OP posted this thread based on someone's profile here... I find that intrusive and showing a complete lack of respect for the person concerned despite having left out the person' name.

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

I can't see anything weird about it. As long as they're not blood relations, why would it matter?

BTW my father's two sisters married men who were brothers. Neither woman was a blood relation of her husband so no problem. I think it would have been pretty sad if the fact that the older sister had got married first had meant that the younger sister wasn't allowed to marry the man she loved.

2004

The question is of legal nature and we are not lawyers; my impression is that it provokes the idea of "forbidden" relationships; there are deep studies about this types of relationships, the lineage stories..etc...Most of the posts here have mentioned brothers and sisters marriages as arguments of what is allowed and not. The OP gave a little different example in my opinion because both are parents of different children and as parents, they are linked to them by blood. This is the question: should we think that what is moral or immoral, legal or not has to be related directly to blood? Of course there are cultures who have thier own customs and beliefs. What about ours? What about our kids? What about making them safe? No post mentionned the opinion of their kids? If anything embarrasses a kid, that means that's not right. Some people make mistakes because they are not happy, fragile, and vulnerable, and get acquainted emotionaly to others, get attached. It's a daynamic and we do not know everything in that family or in those families where such things happen. There is a dillution in our society of the roles of the parents and many many kids everywhere are in distress. The fact that nobody here thought about them, is significant.

We live in a STRANGE world!

I read this in a member's profile on this website. I will NOT name names to keep his privacy but the info is listed in the member's profile.

He states that his daugher-in-law went back to visit her mom. Upon the daughter-in-laws return to the USA, she gave her mother's email address to the father-in-law. They started communicating and to make a long story short, the father-in-law wants to marry the daughter-in-law's mother and have filed a K-1.

Is this legal? It's a bit twisted. You have in-laws marrying each other? How is this possible?

Immigration wouldnt like that. Usually when more then one relative goes to US on spousal visas they do suspect arranged (fraud) marriages.

I do not think it odd at all... but I have to say that I find it not OK that the OP posted this thread based on someone's profile here... I find that intrusive and showing a complete lack of respect for the person concerned despite having left out the person' name.

WOW WOW WOW back off back off. Information was in public profile. Public. Accessible to everyone. It was not stolen. so its for everyones use. We are allowed to discuss here wherever we want.

Dont try to be better then you are. Selfrighteousness is the right word???. Are you obsessed with white guilt as well???... Heh. Hippi?? Yep, I bet...

Right, i fully agree. It is ok to post about somebody's post, a post is public by definition, espcially about subject. And, what is intrusive, is intruding in their kids lives to imitate them as those parents seem to do and creating a confusion of parenting roles in their minds, the substantial questionable thing is: the son and daughter are spouses, right? their own parents marring they become also brother and sister. Do people think sometimes what they are doing and what the consequences might be? i doubt!
