father-in-law marrying daughter-in-law's mother? legal?

We live in a STRANGE world!

I read this in a member's profile on this website. I will NOT name names to keep his privacy but the info is listed in the member's profile.

He states that his daugher-in-law went back to visit her mom. Upon the daughter-in-laws return to the USA, she gave her mother's email address to the father-in-law. They started communicating and to make a long story short, the father-in-law wants to marry the daughter-in-law's mother and have filed a K-1.

Is this legal? It's a bit twisted. You have in-laws marrying each other? How is this possible?

It sounds perfectly legal to me. He's marrying his daughter-in-laws mother...nothing wrong with that. He might as well, since she's already his daughter-in-law. Just hope he's divorced! :)

Ana and Dan, I don't know if you're Ana or Dan, but let's say you're Ana. What happening here is that your father-in-law (Dan's dad) is interested in marrying your mother (Ana's mother). Essentially Dan's dad is wanting to marry Dan's mother-in-law. You'd be ok with that? :o

This is legal? And you see nothing wrong with that?

This is the first time I've ever heard of such thing.

All right here comes two logics. One religious and one legal. According to religious point of view either from christianity or islam, it is not a problem since mother in law and father in law are not directly related to eachother by any blood relation.

now lets see what does law say, you can marry any one who is not your daughter, mother, sister, brother, father, real uncle and aunt. not grand father and grand mother. so it seems ok but the million $ question

what abt the visa? i am pretty sure the CO would take it in a wrong angle. chances are of denial or delay in the visa.

It's in no way illegal - the only way the two are related are because their respective offspring are married. You more often hear of two brothers marrying two sisters - do you think that's as odd? Because it's the same thing.

remmember no one is taking it illegal but infortunatly they have to go through a visa process. CO wont like this marraige or relationship at all. it has happened to one applicant and her case was sent back to DOS.

Yes, that to me, is quite odd too. I actually probably have only heard of it once and I didn't think it was legal then.

Very interesting that it's legal.

Honestly, I'd have a much better time accepting polygamy than the above situations of brothers and sisters marrying brothers and sisters or parents marrying parents-in-laws. That, to me, is just bizarre!

I knew of a situation where father and son married sisters...Just makes for confusion as to how each are related. One was father and brother in law to his son. One was son and brother in law to the father. For the children born to the son their grandpa was their uncle, oh geez its so confusing......... ..........

No, I'm understanding what you're saying. I still think it's strange. But I know why it felt so familiar to me now. It was recently in a US movie: The Family Stone http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0356680/

Two sisters from one family and two brothers from another family. They get together and the ending implies they all get married. I thought it was strange when I saw the movie.

I have NEVER heard of this in real life.

As another poster snidely--but perhaps accurately--suggests, I may have led a sheltered life. :innocent:

I have a colleague, a blue collar guy, a joker, who likes to mess with the minds of the new Ph.D.'s we hire around here.

One of his better gags is when he tells them about his family. His father is also his father-in-law. And no, he isn't married to his sister! It can be pretty good funny, though, to see how new hires take on this (bizarre) information.

The parents seem proud enough of their children, and grateful that they got their parents together .... it must have been amusing to watch, though, as they sorted it out!

Such marriages -2 sisters marrying brothers or parents in law marrying each other used to be a lot more common than it is today, especially when communities were smaller and travel was less common. First cousins used to marry quite often as well for the same reasons. Actually, I think it is kind of sweet if parents in law decide to marry, and it would not bother me a bit if my Dad married my mother-in-law - except that they are so diametrically opposite to each other they would have very little in common:-). My father-in-law and mymother are both deceased.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
