Does anyone know what happens if you send the I-129F without some supporting documents? They werent put in the envelope but we have been told the application has been sent to Vermont and the check has been banked.

Mar 2011 - After 5mths denied for lost docs - Attempts to follow up failed. Mar 18 2012 - I-129F sent - No sign of NOA1 but they have banked the check...Jul 24 - Update - USCIS has located our file
Infopass Apt - they sorted through everything - our 2011 and 2012 file keep getting mixed up - getting us a Case# (still waiting) Dec- Infopass Appt- expecting to get a case # in about a week ..Still no Case number

Mar 2013 Infopass - advised file was in a box somewhere, and it would be quicker for us to refile. Life gets in the way... New petition submitted July 2014 .

Well once it gets to the Vermont location and has been assigned to someone to review it, if the supporting documents (depending on which) are missing- you will receive an RFE (request for evidence). They will send you the RFE with a deadline given to send back to them. You want to do that ASAP!

Good Luck!

Thank you that's very helpful .... I also wondered if there is any point in sending the other information earlier or if it is better to wait until receiving the RFE as this could cause a delay? Or whether the other information will never connect with our original I-129F application and get lost somewhere?

No wait because you never know if it was really needed or not. So just wait for the RFE and they will tell you where to send it.

There's no real system in place to facilitate something like that.

RFEs aren't really a big deal. Once they receive it back they'll approve you straight away, so it'll only really delay your case a couple of weeks.

Don't send in any documentation until you receive the RFE requesting it. The RFE will have a different address and you need to include the RFE notice with the documents. This returns the RFE exactly to the desk of the person working on your file. If you send in documents to the general address, they don't get matched up right away to your file because your file is in a pile somewhere waiting for its turn. By the time they get around to the additional documents and try to match the up, you would already have received the RFE and would have had to re-send the documents. USCIS deals with tons of paper and it is very easy for something to get lost. Wait until you receive the RFE with its proper 'tracking' system and that will ensure what you send gets to where it needs to go.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I'd much rather have an RFE and delay the process for a couple of weeks instead of sending my documents to USCIS hoping they'll put them in the exact folder. In this way you'll know exactly what is missing and what they want.
