It's best to start your own thread for this. Your father-in-law files I-864 unless he lives with you and you want to add his income to the original sponsor. Please read the instructions.

Your Mother-in-law will be the only joint sponsor. Co-sponsor needs to live in the same residency with the main sponsor. If she and your husband live in diffrent address, then she will file as a joint sponsor.

A co-sponsor does NOT have to live in the same residency as the main sponsor. You are thinking of a household member which is something different.

wow im so confused right now. I have read about 3 different threads on this and i still dont know the difference between a Joint sponsor and a Co Sponsor. Can someone who knows the differene please give us a detailed explanation.

hi

co-sponsor and household member are the same, some people use different terms for the same thing

a joint sponsor doesn't have to be related, or live in the same household, they can be any LPR or USC that qualifies. That person doesn't even need to be in the same city or state. a joint sponsor cannot combine their income with the primary sponsor

but if the joint sponsor has a USC or LPR spouse, he or she can combine income with spouse if needed, the joint sponsor would file an i864 and the household member, the spouse of the joint sponsor would file the i864A to combine their income

ok so let me see if i got this right.

A co-sponsor would be a family member who is living in your house?

A joint sponsor could be anyone as long as they are not a family member and not living in your house?

what catagory does my husbands cousin fall under? the Beneficiary (my husband) has a cousin who lives in the U.S whom will be living in the same state but in a different city.. he is a joint sponsor?
