We paid the AOS and paid the immigration visa ($404), is that the IV fee? I gather that next we fill out that D-260 and submit documents? Should we send our original birth certs/marriage certs in the mail or just hold them for the interview? We are ordering a more comprehensive birth cert since the one we have doesn't have parents names.

I'm a little lost on the police certificate though. So even though I've never been arrested I still have to go to a local police station and get some sort of certificate from them?

And I am compiling all of these things for myself(the applicant). Does my husband(the US citizen) need to provide his birth cert and a police cert too?

(He is getting his last 2 years tax transcripts together to submit with the application)

thank you.

Also, the birth certificate we just ordered just has my mom on it. She never registered my father when she did it. Anyone know if that will be a problem or not? They said I can add him but it will take DNA tests and could be very lengthy and pricey.

Ok, great you're from Canada :D

Yes, the fee of $404 was the IV bill. Once it appears as PAID, the DS-260 will become available to complete.

Have you signed up for EP?

If no: then yes, you have to send the original/certified copies of both the birth certificate and marriage certificate. No way around this.

If yes: then you just have to scan the original/certified copies of both the birth certificate and marriage certificate and email that. Then you have to bring the original/certified copies to the interview for them to verify.

A police certificate is mandatory, whether you've been arrested or not. You can get it from three places in Canada: local police station, RCMP, or an independent agency that does it for work or volunteer reasons (this is how I got mine). "Shop" around and see what's the cheapest/fastest way.

As for your husband, the USC, no, you don't need his birth certificate or police records or anything. The supporting documents for the IV package is all about the beneficiary (foreign spouse). The AOS package though is all about the petitioner (US spouse) which requires the I-864 and tax information. They're both separate packages and separate tracks.

For your birth certificate, NVC states on their site that both parents' names must be present on the birth certificate. I'd suggest calling up NVC and asking what you should since you don't have your father's name on yours.

Thank you so much for the information. I did call NVC and they said that they see that a lot with the fathers name not on their. He said it should be fine, but couldn't promise anything till they look at the package. So hopefully it will be ok. Thanks again!!!

Yeah, my husband's birth certificate doesn't have his biological father on it. But he's the USC, so it wasn't a big deal. Nonetheless, I wish you good luck on your birth certificate! I'm sure it will be okay. :)

In my case my birth certificate listed both of my parents as unknown (long story) and I had no issues; I was never questioned about it at any stage of the process. Good luck!

My wife went to the biometric /fingerprinting appointment today,,,she said it was very fast! Evidently I already paid for this as part of a previous fee, because there was no charge (I think they hit you up for $80 otherwise).

The kids will go to their appointment on Monday,,, not sure why they just didn't do them all at the same time,,but whatever! After that.... only 25 more days until the interview! Wahoo!
