Moving back to nonUSC's country

I just wondered if any of you have moved back to the nonUSC's country after moving to the U.S.? My husband has been here for 4 years and we're now moving back in 3 months. I wondered if anyone had tips on anything we should do before we leave....

Get two or more certified copies of every official paper or document that you might ever conceivably need to have from the USA. It can be difficult and quite expensive, or outright impossible, to get various documents if you're requesting them from overseas, si man.

I agree, triplicate is the BARE minimum for certified documents, I'd keep a sextet on hand and make copies form those. It might seem excessive but as TBone correctly pointed out, some documents will be virtually unobtainable form foreign soil at some future time, should the need arise.

Si, man. Interestingly, when Mrs. T-B. & I got married, I beelined it to the county courthouse and waited on 7 copies of our marriage certificate. The clerkette had never had a request for so many, but she uncomplainingly created the 7 copies. What with submissions to banks, schools, mothers-in-law (for souvenirs), et al., we now have one copy left.

Ergothuswithforthly, IR5's advice to get 6 of everything is very reasonable, si man.

Also, as part of the "official/certified documents," remember to get full copies of your health/medical and vaccination records that you've accumulated while in the U.S., si man. Most doctors & clinics will release these if you sign a form or two and perhaps pay a nominal fee. Same thing if you have a cat, dog, or similar pet that you plan to take with you.

Good point, TBONE, you never know when you might need this info. I wonder how many of us in these parts have their immunization records or their pets' info on hand. Always over prepare, better to have too much than not enough, si man.
