sanita speaks english with a accent..i understand her easy but sometimes others don't//she is certainly self-conscious and never answers others, like store clerks, and has me do the talking....

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Haha, I swear my future MIL does not speak Portuguese, let alone English. I can barely communicate with her in her weird country Portuguese. My boyfriend and his siblings tell me that even they can't understand her. :)

I feel your pain on that one.

actually, alex, not being able to understand your MIL could be a blessing in disguise

we are the opposite...

Javed said he understands my mothers english better than mine. he said her accent is

a lot better too. :(

Sujeet speaks very fluent English and has no troubles. But I can relate to how you are feeling, when I try to talk to Sujeet's family in India. If it's to his sisters I'm fine because they talk slower and they speak english pretty clearly. When I have talked to my father-in-law, his accent is very strong and I don't know enough hindi to speak to him in that and I panic. :innocent: I hate saying "what?" over and over because I don't want him to feel bad. I am the one who has to learn more of a new language to be able to speak to my in laws and I find it very nerve wracking if I speak to them. I applaud everyone who is fluent in more than one language.

well, get cracking, you'll have the opportunity soon enough!!! :D:dance:

for me i have a problem understanding oriental people. i really have to pay close attention.

My fiancé is Canadian. And not québéçois. So no problems there.

But to the original poster, just keep practicing and don't be shy! English is challenging, but the best way to learn a foreign language is to use it continually.

Since English is his first language, of course he speaks it fluently. Doesn't really have an accent when he speaks English either, but when he's angry and speaks Patoi its a different story.

My fiancé's native language is French, and his English is pretty good. The only issues he really has with it are some grammar errors and not knowing some of the words. Even though I'm usually a huge grammar nazi, I'd be disappointed if he started using correct grammar all the time because the errors are one of the many things that I find so adorable about him.

His mother speaks only French, so I'll be working at becoming fluent one of these days. I took three and a half years of French in high school from the later part of 1996 to the early part of 2000, so I have a fairly decent head start. :)

08/25/06 - 08/08/07 - K1 timeframe from mailing the petition to the NSC to K1 approval at the Montréal Consulate

08/31/07 - Réjean makes the big move to the USA

09/22/07 - MARRIED!

10/09/07 - Réjean gets his SSN

Adjustment of status:

10/26/07 - Mailed AOS/EAD/AP

11/23/07 - Biometrics appointment

12/14/07 - I-485 transferred to the California Service Center

12/28/07 - EAD approved!

01/07/08 - EAD received

02/08/08 - GREEN CARD APPROVED!!!!!!

02/16/08 - Green card received!

*headdesk*:

01/02/09 - Réjean loses his wallet containing his drivers license, Social Security card, and green card

02/04/09 - Our best friends bail us out by giving us the money to file for the replacement green card!

02/12/09 - E-filed I-90 for the replacement green card along with the $370 filing fee (including biometrics)

02/19/09 - NOA1

02/25/09 - Biometrics appointment

05/01/09 - Replacement green card received

Removal of conditions:

01/07/10: Mailed I-751 packet by overnight mail to the CSC

01/11/10: I-751 packet delivered and signed for

01/19/10: Received NOA1

01/28/10: Biometrics (did walk-in due to Réjean being out on the road on original date of 02/10/10)

02/03/10: APPROVED!!!

02/05/10: Received e-mail from USCIS saying the card production has been ordered

02/06/10: Received letter typed on plain paper from USCIS congratulating Réjean on his removal of conditions approval

02/11/10: Green card received

My fiance speaks better english then me and helped me write half my papers for school.. Though when she first came to the states her english was very very limited but she went to english classes at the university first to learn english then got her degrees.. Occasionally she will say something really funny and we giggle about it .. like Bullito! (burrito normally.. the bullito just comes out occasionally.) .. its awesome.. she is not ashamed of her accent or some words she speaks incorrectly.

the errors are one of the many things that I find so adorable about him.

Ain't that the truth..Yeah my fiances mom and brother are the only ones in the family that speak english the rest chinese.. I am learning .. and doing a great job I must say.
