It is obvious you have no clue what it is like to be poor. Come down from your tower and look around.

In 1901, according to a 1997 Bureau of Labor Statistics study, the average

family spent almost half of their budget on food. Just 3% of that went to

meals away from home. Today, we only spend an average 13.3% of our budgets

on food - but 42% of that money is spent in restaurants.

It is useless talking to you about this. Do you know why people spent half of their income on food in 1901? It is because we didn't have fertilizers and pesticides. You know what else we had in 1901?

So you want that again? It is what you are advocating.

Fair to producers who promote sustainability as well as higher social and environmental standards.

Yeah, let the poor starve. How humanitarian of you. Social and environmental standards mean little to a hungry person. You want to drag us back to the dark ages. It doesn't matter to you if people starve as long as your standards are upheld. There is a reason why the modern America has come about in the last 100 years. Mechanization and modern farming is why we have a healthy, well fed population. You want to take us back to a time when the "haves" did well and the "have nots" starved. Forget it. I ain't buying.

Well fed, for sure. One of the highest obesity levels in the world.

Healthy? Hardly. Americans are some of the sickest people of all

the developed nations. Obesity, cancer, heart disease in spite of

the supposedly best health care available anywhere.

And your telling me that is because we use chemicals? I would say the obesity and other health problems have very little to do with the chemicals and everything to do with lifestyle. The way our basic foods are raised has very little to do with obesity, cancer and heart disease and everything to do with what we do with it after it leaves the farm.

Processed-food diets overloaded with hydrogenated oil, trans fats, high fructose corn syrup

and artificial colorings and flavors have everything to do with it.

No it isn't. This is the most disingenuous poppycock ever. Not commenting implies nothing, it's not strange, it's not indicative that those who don't comment approve of, agree with or in any way have anything to do with an OP. If one had to comment in every thread in order to maintain credibility one would be very busy indeed. Not commenting is not commenting, period.

As I have entered in here, I will say that Steven does post some unutterable drivel and most of the time I choose to ignore it because it isn't worth commenting on, it's really that simple.

And encourage producers to employ fair farming and employment practices.

This sounds like advocating for socialism or something like that.

Many chemicals have been linked to causal factors for obesity, cancer, and heart disease as much as lifestyle choices.
