Do you send things to your foreign fiancé(e)'s home country? Food, clothing, electronics, accesories, money, etc? Things they can't get in their country?

Do they send things from their country to you in the states? I miss being in India and would love to have some authentic things imported.

I just want to know what you all do. :)

I have imported furniture and oil paintings from my wife's country. I have also sent money and cleaning supplies to her family there.

When I go to Mexico, all of Oliverio's friends that are here load me up with stuff to take back to their families and when I get there I end up bringing back as much to the families as they sent :P

I send cards and letters thru the mail and if Oliverio needs money I Western Union it to him...Other then that I don't trust anything else going thru the mail

When I was still back in Indonesia, hubby sent me some stuffed animals via regular mail. He even sent me gold necklace for my birthday once using regular mail but I told him to hide it underneath teddy bear's shirt :P I sent him cards and some other stuff using regular mail also and everything worked fine ! I don't think I can send food or food products as easily though, might have problem with customs...

I always take Craig Milky Ways (they don't sell them in Canadia) and the latest issue of ReadyMade Magazine.

But, other than that, the differences between the U.S. and Canada are hard to find.

I might have to start bringing back Canadian Corn Pops though, they are SO much better than the American ones.

and it's ok to bring spices? no hassle at customs... cuz I was thinking about bringing some back, but thought it was a no-no.

I was kinda wondering something similar with cookies. I wanted to bake Craigory some cookies and ship them up to him, but I was worried about them being allowed with customs?

I sent my boyfriend a ridiculous package of tacky Minnesota souvenirs. And a few other things. So far nothing from him. But I'll see him in 22 days (but who's counting?)

Never thought about it. People bring back sweets too. Never had a problem.

i brought fresh honey (fresh from the beehive the day before) from tanzania, and i made it through customs. i know that was very naughty, but you've never had honey until you've tasted that honey. i shared it with my momma and she went nuts over it. if i could get some more now...ahhh...

we sent a diabetic tester thingie to my husband's dad, to monitor his diabetes. he was getting his blood drawn once a week at the hospital to monitor it, which isn't very effective. since he has the tester thing that you do twice a day, he hasn't been admitted to the hospital. we've also sent loads of pictures!

his parents have sent red pepper, egusi, and some other stuff for cooking to us. we are going to visit them in january, and his mom is already asking what size i wear and what kind of clothes i like...lol.

I used to send my husb stuff when he was in Italy (postcards, shampoo -- yes, shampoo -- and one time, soccer sneakers). He's sent me postcards and pictures of his family. But now it's virtually impossible to send stuff to his family in Albania because they don't have an address per se, as the houses aren't numbered. Also, he tells me there's a theft issue if you send anything too inticing (i.e. anything that isn't a plain piece of paper in a plain envelope). Maybe one day we'll try to send a postcard and some photos and see what happens.

We'll have to wait until one of his relatives or something take a trip back so he can have them bring his parents stuff.

I brought back a box tea leaves and instant nescafe coffee(what they drink there) when I came back from India. They were both sealed so I figured it was ok. And like you said, the worst that can happen is if they take it away, but not a big deal.

For the original question:

We did send things to eachother while Sujeet was still in India, but not food items. He had sent me some salwars and dupattas and other Indian gifts. I had sent him some American/Floridian touristy souvenirs :P , different books, a pillow I made for him, scarf I had made for him, etc. Every few months I'd send something, just for fun.

All my packages got to him fine, but many of his packages did not arrive here fine! His packages would have been opened(not sure if by US post or Indian) and something would always be missing. :( A dupatta here, a book there. Very annoying.
