Welcome to MTV USA 2011. In the MTV world they don't put the blame on the animals that brutally beat to death seven human beings, they blame some shmuck pastor in Florida for burning a religious book. It's the same crowd that sue's McDonalds for hot coffee. Accountability isn't an issue with the MTV USA crowd, being politically correct is these days is.

Pastor Terry Jones told NBC's TODAY show on Saturday that his church in Gainesville, Fla., would not burn Qurans in protest to the building of an Islamic center near the site of the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.

updated 9/11/2010 5:19:35 PM ET

"Not today, not ever," he said when pressed about whether his planned demonstration might happen at a later date. He explained that it would not happen even if the Islamic center is built near ground zero.

Jones flew to New York to appear on NBC's TODAY show and told interviewer Carl Quintanilla that there was no meeting set up with New York Imam Faisal Rauf.

He said he hoped a meeting would take place, however.

"Even though we have not burned one Quran, we have gotten over 100 death threats," Jones said. "We feel that God is telling us to stop, and we also hope that ... maybe that will open up the door to maybe be able to talk to the imam."

Jones said that his church's goal was "to expose that there is an element of Islam that is very dangerous and very radical."

He told NBC that "we have definitely accomplished that mission."

A "Burn a Koran Day" banner outside his church has been taken down.

This is a breaking news story. Please check again for more updates.

Our extremists burn books..... their extremists behead people.

savages

no, your extremists murder innocent civilians in afghanistan, over, and over, and over, and over again, and it doesn't merit a blip of interest from anyone really. some of them have even been murdered just for lolz. there's no glass house here to throw stones at the afghans from, that's fer damn sure.

if anyone thinks this is really just about the quran burning, they're kidding themselves. much more likely, they're just sick of us soldiers killing their kids, nato killing their kids, and this jackass in florida was just the straw that broke the proverbil camel's back. not that it makes what happened ok. but most of the people posting here have total cognitive dissonance when it comes to dead afghans-they don't merit anyone's interest anymore. but dead nato-they're magically different and all tragic and sh!t. whatever.

I think the crux of the discussion with regard to Paul's story is that the "she's begging for it" get-out has its roots in misogyny. The comparison between that and this is a dissatisfying one because the minority group switches sides in each scenario, and because purposeful and public incitement of racial hatred is something quite different to fashion preference.

A more analagous example would be walking up to a person of a maligned minority group, uttering the ugliest of racial slurs, and then claiming no culpability for being subsequently hospitalized. There are plenty of gestures which, in context, we view as far more violent as they would be in a social vaccuum.

Here the oppressed are Muslims, citizens of a fragile democracy with a widespread suspicion of Western values. Jones knew the political climate in which he acted, and was informed, by a senior government official, of what would happen if he did. He is responsible, and admitting as such need not reduce or absolve the responsibility of the murderers themselves.

Uh Yeah, In Afghanistan far from the US and oppressed by a corrupt government. If anyone says the pastor is partially guilty of the killings they are saying one of two things.

1. The Pastor was correct in the first place or....

2. It is a valid response to kill for something you view unexceptable.

Obviously I don't agree with either of these. Perhaps I am alone in this.

The Pastor burned a book. He broke no laws, he harmed no person. He didn't do it in front of a crowd of muslims. Its quite totalitarian for anyone to find someone guilty of murder for another's reaction.

Condemn as a bigot, a fool...but he is no murderer.

They could always go back to cutting off noses of girls being educated just for the fact said girls were being educated. Or better yet gang raping their cousin because someone said they saw her walking with another man.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

???????????? Totally bizarre comment.

What they did was was a premeditated action with the express intent and full knowledge and warning by Muslim Imams and the US State Department that their planned actions would result in violent retribution in the extreme faction of Muslim society. They did it anyway.

Then you agree with number 1.

I might have said it a little differently, but letting the threat of a terrorist act dictate your actions is what terrorism is all about.

Maybe someone needs to invade the US to get this stuff to stop happening. A guy in Tennessee cut another guy's heart out of his chest at a bar and then ate some of it, a

guy sodomizes another guy with a tree branch in Chicago, someone strangled their grandmother so they could get busy with a prostitute in granny's bedroom, and a couple of guys savagely beat their partners, one of the women died, the other one 's boyfriend carved "do not resuscitate" on her chest. Hurray for the USA. Maybe NATO taking out some random civilians every week will make it stop. Or a couple afghan soldiers taking out random civilians just for kicks will make it stop?

If you read those links you posted you would notice a big difference between there and here. Here it is illegal and peeps get prosecuted in a court of law and then go to prison or even face the death penalty. There they don't.

See the difference ? One place it's tolerated...even promoted, and the other place it's not only shocking but it's also illegal.

You also notice the cracker head Illinois Nazi is not doing that in retribution for something that happened on the other side of the planet.

And it was not made illegal by foreign invaders. Social change doesn't happen that way. But the process is certainly retarded when the people who say they're trying to effect social change keep killing the same people they claim to be trying to save, and keep claiming that it's their religious beliefs that are to blame, when the people who they are claiming to want to save adhere to the same religion. Drone attacks and a kill team of us soldiers blowing up civilians for kicks isn't helping anyone either. It's a glass house, no matter how much you try to delude yourself into thinking it's not.

are you suggesting that in fact these murders would have taken place if the Pastor had not indulged in his book burning activities?

Absolutely. If it hadn't been the Pastor, they would have found another excuse to kill Westerners. "Israel" always works when they're out of ideas. Evil Zionist occupiers!

The easy solution, my preferred solution, is to leave the rest of the world to their own devices. The US has enough unresolved problems with our nearby neighbors alone to occupy our attention for a while. One of the reasons given for seeking independence from our doting father George III, was to free us from foreign entanglements. You see how well that has worked out.
