Hi all!!

Just curious if anyone has had any experience with either of the two Sydney Panel Physicians (Dr Waks and Dr Millar I think)?

If anyone has been to either of them recently I'd be interested to know how you went, if possible an estimate of the costs involved, how long it takes to get an appointment, and whether or not they will book you in without your case number (ie before you get your approval).

Just trying to plan ahead.

1 Dec 2010 - I-130 received at Chicago

18 Apr 2011 - APPROVED!! NOA2 text and email

NVC

29 Apr 2011 - Case entered into the system/Case number assigned; Medical Exam in Sydney

30 Apr 2011 - Police Check Application sent

2 May 2011 - Called NVC and got Invoice ID number

3 May 2011 - Sent DS-3032 email

4 May 2011 - Received email reply from NVC for DS-3032; Received Medical Exam results

5 May 2011 - AOS invoiced and paid

7 May 2011 - AOS package sent; IV invoiced and paid

9 May 2011 - AOS package delivered to NVC according to tracking

20 May 2011 - RFE for missing IV package....still waiting on Police Certificate!

24 May 2011 - Received Police Certificate after 25 days (so much for 7-10!); IV package sent

27 May 2011 - IV package delivered according to tracking

8 Jun 2011 - RFE for original marriage certificate; requested supervisor review since we KNOW it was in the package!

30 Jun 2011 - SIF and CC - FINALLY!!!!

13 Jul 2011 - Interview date assigned! Scheduled for August 9th @ 10am

9 Aug 2011 - Interview - APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12 Aug 2011 - Visa in hand

I saw Dr Millar and was able to book before my NOA2 was received - the other clinic wouldn't let me book without a case number. Anyway, I had mine done in Feb, a month and half before receving NOA2.

I had a serology test to check my immunity from my local GP - figured it would be easier than digging up my old records. You can do this on medicare. All I needed were boosters for Tdap (got it for free) and MMR ($35).

When I went into see Dr Millar - the X-Ray and Pathology clinics are in the same building which was great.

On the day of the medical I paid...

- $242 to Dr Millar for the Medical Examination

- $31 to the Pathology clinic (I could have told them I was Syphylis free... for free)

- $65 to the X-Ray clinic.

If you're wondering Cash/Credit/Eftpos are all fine in all locations.

It went super smoothly and cost way less than I had been reading on VJ. Just sort out all your immunisations before you go to see the panel doc.

Dr Millar is lovely :) I had my results sent to my address a week later at no cost to me.

curvebell - Thanks for letting me know what you paid - helps to have an idea of what I will be up for - so now I can start saving lol :whistle:

I was trying to have the least amount of needles as possible (BIG baby when it comes to needles) but it does make sense to have the serology done before the medical since my vaccination record is a little messy and I don't remember ever having the chickenpox. And if I can claim that on Medicare - all the better!

I went to DR Waks and had no issue at all before my NOA2 actually I went months before and he asked for a case number but said it was ok without. I did all my medical way early as did not know about the NOA1 and NOA2 back then. The charges are the same but I had to pick my medical up personally and that was no issue as I had my daughter do it for me as she worked right there in town and got off at Wynyard . It's right across the road as you come out in George ST. I got my appointment within 2 weeks and my results were ready within 3 days.

Divorced !st November 2012.

Married only 2 years 1 month

Guess it doesn't really matter then which one I go to ...they both seem fine. Guess it will just depend on which one has an availability to suit when I can make a trip to Sydney.

I went to Dr Millar today... prices and experience was exactly the same as mentioned by curvebell :) Nice older guy with a quirky sense of humor too.

One thing to be aware of though, as of April 1st, the consulate has decided we all need a flu shot. I had it done while I was there, cost $25. Not sure if your gp could do it for free on medicare or not? just wanted to get it over and done with, so i paid for mine and got it while I was there :)

Thats it... focus on the goal :) I'm terrible with needles too, but I felt almost nothing when Dr millar gave me that flu shot :)
