Sounds good, TCO.

Now, if you do move there, I am curious what measures your wife will take to keep you from getting into trouble. I recommend a GPS chip implant and a shock collar.

ETA: Perhaps a CB3000..(google it, NSFW!)

When I move there, I am gonna live life to it's fullest. Party, Drinking, Fishing, Cruising Mindanao for the first year or so, then I will settle down and try to figure out a way to make money in PI

I googled it, That's is crazy, but funny

What do you do to make money here, meaning what is your profession? Can that not translate to a similar job in the Philippines? Can Americans even obtain professional jobs in the Philippines, or are we limited as to what we can do to earn money? I don't remember seeing any non-Filipino people working when I was there.

My fiancee is a teacher in the PI, and she hopes to get a teaching position here after getting the required certifications (I know it'll be tough, with all the cuts in education). Anyway, my company has an office in Manila. I'm planning to ask my bosses If I can work out of that office during the summer months here when she's on vacation from school. Her family does not live in Manila, but it would be easier to go see her on weekends from Manila instead of Dallas.

Congratulations on the house purchase. Davao is one of the nicest places in the Philippines to live. Cleaner, greener and safe. I have live outside of Davao City (20 to 30 minutes north) now for about 2 years. I built an American style house here and completed it last year. It took me about 1 year to build working 6 days a week. It sits on 1000 sq. meters of green quiet property with several fruit trees, shade trees, bananas, plants and flowers. 1500 sq. feet inside with about 600 sq. feet of wrap around deck, including a balcony off the upstairs master bedroom, 14 exterior lights. American made Asphalt shingles, Vinyl siding, electrical switches and outlets. Sheetrock walls and textured ceilings. All bedrooms, stairs and living room are carpeted with dense 3/8" pad under layment, the rest is ceramic tile. 3 bedroom's, 2 full baths with Kohler Tubs and shower combination (hot and cold water). Laundry room with American washer and dryer hook ups. 20+ feet of kitchen counter top with built in cook top and vent-a-hood, full size stainless refrigerator/freezer. 30 feet of upper and lower built in wood cabinets. Mahogany French doors off the balcony and living room and a single Mahogany entrance door as well. Windows are Vinyl sliding with screens. Exterior doors have American made thresholds. Roadside has 100 feet of privacy wall and iron work with 16 foot (2 eights) wide sliding gates. Monthly costs to include, electricity, water, Internet, satellite TV, insurance and taxes, approximately 6000 peso's (less than $150) a month. We are starting our DCF IR-1 process this month and have decided to sell our home. Not an easy decision considering all the work and sweat we have put into it. If any one out there is interested and serious, feel free to contact me for additional info and pic's. Thanks. m60man@yahoo.com

but I have been hearing "it's going to change soon" for a while now.

Hey, soon we're going to have a third terminal at NAIA! hahahahahaa....

What was that, about 11 years from start of construction to opening? And now after 13-14 it's still only partially open. The Philippine Government, moving at the speed of bureaucracy!

Hot water is important, but so is a water supply that doesn't smell septic, or has things living in it.

On a side note, friends are buying a house somewhere in Luzon, probably near Baguio City, and they went to the bank for a loan to buy a house. They had to pay them an appraisal fee up front, and now it is like this secret document that cannot be discussed with anyone, including my friends that paid for the appraisal. They just want to know if they got a good deal, but the bank says, "No can do po. Confidentiality and business ethics prohibit us from disclosing that information, sir."

My buddy who works for Ericcson, lived in Philippines for about 3 years. His company paid him his full salary plus furnished a driver for him, and from what I can tell about him, he makes a nice salary.

I have seen forgeiners in Philippines who make a good living and comparable to USA salary, On my last trip I meet a guy who imported luxury cars to Philippines, he had a nice Mercedes he drove and his life seemed to be work during the day and party all night long.

As for me I will find some way to make money, I always have and I always will. I have kicked around building apartments in Philippines and renting them out, I rented my fiance an apartment in her hometown a few years ago and it was difficult to find since they are so few available.

Also kicking around the plan of building a themed style restaurant with a nightclub.

If they ever lift retrogression on nurses from Philippines, I will import them to USA and run some type of home health agency ....
