What do you mean by "mousepad"? Are you talking about the touchpad on a laptop, that stupid eraser thingy, or something else? Regarding the AC adapter socket, are you talking about a desktop?

Touchpad and the power connector. The touchpad went from 'dry' to extremely hard to drag things and the power connector came off its soldering within 6 months of purchase, and no, I did not trip over the power cord while it was plugged in.

I should have said DC jack. laptop_power_jack.jpg

Update: I used the wife's Mac last night to do some image editing and I wowed at the ease of use. Too bad the pricing is a bit beyond my budget right now but I seriously considered going Mac instead of buying something smaller.

Back to reality, I decided to read up on the HP Slate. I am still a bit skeptical, but I might be won over and the price doesn't seem too ridiculous.

I am really tempted by the HP Slate 500. What is holding me back right now is the lack of a 'normal' RGB out on it or the base... making any projector connector be HDMI-only. Not everyone has upgraded to HDMI projectors and that might be the killer right there for me. If HP wanted to be cool about it, they would have designed the dock with one of those right next to the high-def out they put in.

You are awesome, thank you.

Last I saw of these puppies, prices were in the $200 range, and they were much larger. Now they tease me with this one that looks the size of the DV adaptor for Macs.

I think I may go see if I can find a retailer to play with this HP and make up my mind from there.
