We drive almost daily on the interstate so it was imperative for my wife to learn that quickly. She's done a great job with it and has taken several road trips out of state with her buddies.

... I still don't ride with her.

Welcome back, VV. Or should I say, VV1?

Thanks Slim. I'm still just old VV. I wish I could remember how I got my old avatar down to 16K. Man, that's small. Once again my life's motto comes into play: "Nothing is easy."

Right now I'm bachelor VV as my wife is in Russia until mid May. When she returns she takes her driving test again. Some local cats I know with foreign wives tell me certain DMV testing centers are easier than others...so next time we're going to go to a supposedly easier center.

Not sure if I mentioned this before but I got a new (surplus) handgun. It's a Beretta M-81 from the Israeli police service vintage 1979 but in great condition mechanically. This is an Italian gun shipped directly to Israel. In the US they're known as Cheetahs. I love this gun! It's a 32 cal. but the Europeans and Israelis have a higher respect for the round than here in the US. Most of the European ammo is hotter than here. I bought some Italian ammo, Fiocchi, and it is a hotter round. I also got an new Italian holster for it from a great but little known company called Vega. So...I'm 100% Italian legit with this gun. I like the double stack capacity of 12 plus 1. I continue to be impressed with Beretta's quality and reliability. And ease of take down too.

I know this is off topic but, hey, this is RUB. Just following tradition. :)

Pasha had his drivers test yesterday and passed easily the first time. Number three of the FSU driver's in our house to get his/her lisence.

He started driving right away when he arrived. He was only 13 but I didn't want him to feel left out, besides for a kid just moved half way round the world, at least he was getting something in the deal. I wanted to spend a lot of time with him and driving around the pretty well empty roads on the islands was a fun way to do it. So he had about 1-1/2 years experience before he even got his learners permit, right after his 15th birthday. He has been my "driver" for the past 1 year+ taking me nearly everywhere when we are both home. He has driven me most of the way to Chicago and back...twice. To NYC and Boston and Montreal. He is IMHO the best of the three in driving skills. He turned 16 a couple weeks ago and we had been doing intensive paralell parking and hill start practice for the last couple weeks and decided this weekend he was ready. He was.

I was proud of him in passing the first time. He pulled up with the examiner in the parking lot, got out and smiled and gave the "thumbs up"

Good job Pasha!

PS...Alla never would drive or ride with the boys. She is nervous as heck if she does

a Beretta M-81

Beretta makes fine firearms.

But... it doesn't count until you post pictures!

I'm waiting on the angry, "charles! you're such a ####. How dare you post something as sweet as nessa expecting and then dupe us with a handgun."

Pasha had his drivers test yesterday and passed easily the first time.

Way to go Pasha!

They don't even test for parallel parking anymore around here. Just yesterday I had to do that at the library. All done with one smooth motion; still got IT! A lady obvioiusly saw me and remarked, "I saw you park, very nice job." Um, thanks, I used to live in the city (Chicago).

Congrats to Pasha.

Yeah, back in my day parking was part of the driving test and the most difficult because you only had like 30 seconds to park it between two cones. I just barely made it. Now I am a master at laying it in on the first shot. Also, most guys tested with stick shifts which added another layer of difficulty in all phases of the test.

Indeed, conga rats to Pasha.

I have a whole decade, in theory, to wait for Denis. But he is a wild child and i think that when he can see out the dash and touch the pedals; he'll be trying to drive something. Damn boy. It should be fun, because I didn't really teach Katyas how to drive. She knew how, she just had to get some confidence and then she passed everything fine.

My apologies for the repeat posts. Something went whacky with the system. I actually thought the post never made it through. I keep hitting post but nothing happened...at least I thought nothing happened.

We have a one way street here with parking on the left and right side. Like shooting with your weak side... it's different!

One of the first few days after we got my wife's new car (which I hate driving because 1. I don't fit in it and 2. Visibility sucks) I had to park it on the left side right out in front of a crowded bar with a bunch of college kids watching. I bet I looked like Austin Powers trying to get that thing in there. I was being extra careful because we just got the car but to be honest, I flubbed it up pretty good. Switching from the Jeep to the car was crazy weird on my depth perception and it didn't react like I thought it would.

I made sure I took a couple extra ins and outs before finally stopping just to make sure it was perfect. The crowd cheered, I bowed, and that was that. Although parking it is a lot easier now, I still don't like driving that car.

In my Jeep, I "create" spots!
