and they'll never have another union job again as word gets around. the union people i know were called before the presidential voting day and told who to vote for.

For many that's a great thing. Its not like people that draw the ire of union agendas want the union agenda to begin with. Its all about context, but that I think is ignored way too much.

Whether its right or wrong...there is certain "does and don'ts" with the union. Iv'e seen some rotten BA's in my time, but then again you can vote them out come voting day. It's politics but it's politics with a lot of money at stake. Some locals are corrupt, and some are clean as a whistle. Either way there are lines that you don't cross. New people to the union, or people not in the union don't always understand this. With me ...my grandpa and his brother were in the boiler makers, my dad and three uncles and a few cousins were in the pipe fitters, my other uncle was a BA for the Teamsters so it was in the family and I knew right from the get go what rules were...whether they were written or not.

Iv'e only crossed a picket line once, and that's after the steel workers union gave our guys (iron workers) the go ahead seeing how our work didn't affect their strike. But again we called our BA and talked to their BA before we went in and did our work on a shut down at Kaiser Aluminum in Tacoma.

Iv'e known cases where my dad and uncles were in on burning other union members from different trades cars for the fact they crossed over into their trade and were warned more than once. Those peeps that had their cars burnt knew what the score was so they couldn't complain. They crossed one of those lines that weren't meant to be crossed....that and they were warned.

There's been strikes against by the unions against other unions because one trade was doing another trades work. That's another line that doesn't get crossed.

Here's one small story...and John Smith will understand this one seeing how he was in the IBEW. Back in the mid 80's at the Valdez oil terminal (end of the Alaska Pipe line), my dad was working on a shut down at one of the tank farms there. Well they were sending out a laborer every few hours to turn a valve that sent a pig through the pipe. This job took maybe 20 min every few hours but it was pipe fitters work, and not the laborer's. So my ol man warned the Super that if it happened again they were walking and taking the other trades with them. So a few hours later out comes the laborer with a pipe wrench getting ready to turn that valve. The Alaska Pipe Line was shut down for almost half a day until they could fly in another fitter to come in and turn that valve. Now to some that may sound crazy, but if the fitters let the laborer do that work, the next thing you know the company would have the laborers (who get paid less) do more and more fitters work. The company's know the rules yet they try over and over to break them to cut a few nickels and dimes here and there.

It's about protecting your work, doing your job, and bringing home a pay check at the end of the week.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

If you don't speak up against something that is perceived to be illegal, wrong, unethical, etc, and you know its going on, you might deserve it if you condone it. If you don't, then no.

The circumstance means that if the union's agenda is to protect the conditions in which you work because they may be dangerous to you, then you are a total idiot for wanting to not have better conditions.

from what i've seen of unions, the union leadership treats their members like serfs.
