Which implies that your question ( = where do we lead??), has been answered. Science. Now look at that second part above. Who will fund this?

Science is great, it is how we solve problems. But until we put those solutions into practice we still haven't led. You want my opinion on how we can lead? Make biofuel a national project. Fully fund all scientific research needed to ramp it up. Fund the new infrastructure to make and deliver it. Then sell that technology to the rest of the world. That is how we put the ME oil Sheiks back on their camels.

It may be a bit hyperbolic but given the current state of affairs in the ME I would say it would be a good goal. The Saudi empire is funding a lot of the terrorism in the world right now. Not directly, or maybe a little directly, but through the radical schools they set up that teaches these terrorists. In a sense we have been funding the terrorists with our own oil money. Taking them out of their limo's and putting them back onto a camel would be so sweet.

Some of these post are funny. A few years back BP had drillers do 42 taps (drills) up on the slope and hit oil all 42 times. Everyone of those wells is capped off. When the price of crude went down over a thousand guys on the slope got layed off. They even closed a refinery up here saying there wasn't enough demand yet our price at the pump has went up. Diesel fuel..the cheapest and easiest to produce, yet it cost the most. Don't be bull sh*tted...we have tons of oil here in the states, it's the oil company's who choose to rape us. The flow of crude in the Alaska pipe line has taken a nose dive over the years and oil company's say it's because they are running out of oil to keep it at capacity. That's bs also. You cap off wells then ####### is going on with the oil in said well ? Again when Bush left office, and left this country in shambles...and he did, oil was rock bottom...so that's when Conoco, BP, Shell, etc... started turning off the taps up here.

So ya, who's fault is it that the oil company's lie through their teeth saying they don't have enough oil to keep prices down yet they have capped off some of the biggest finds to date.

And who's going to do something about it ? The oil company's owned Bush like he was a $20 crack h0, and Obama is no different. He hasn't got us out of either wars, he just started a new one for us. Peeps talk about the deficit yet we are fighting three very costly wars atm for the oil company's. If anything they are America's Pimp Daddy.

My response is not exactly scientific, but I guess I would have to say I don't think that's true where I live. It's been quite some time since I've paid half of what I'm paying right now- I am damn certain it wasn't two years ago. Maybe this is minus taxes and fees and California has higher taxes to make it unnoticable.

All that matters to you is the partisan gotcha games. That thinking is why we are where we are.

No one, not Bush, Clinton, Bush 1, Reagan or now Obama has given us an energy policy with any direction. That is the real problem. But it seems all you want to do is point out that things were just as bad as under Bush. Very nice.

When have we led on energy? Never. And my opinion is better than what we have now which is nothing.

He didn't like that I pointed out his typo. He also didn't like the title of the OP even though it is factual. So he is saying that I got in the way of his barbs aimed at the OP because I dared to poke a little fun at him. The bottom line is that Obama is just as bad as all the other presidents over the last 40 years. I guess he just didn't want Obama lumped in with them.

Oil is traded on the U.S. dollar. As the value of the dollar drops against other currencies, international oil producers raise the price to maintain their profit and purchasing levels. The dollar buys less ... so everything costs more.

However our monetary policy plays a big role in how the market acts in regards to oil.
