Hello All,

I'm new to this board and have a question. I'm applying for a K-1 visa for my fiance from Nigeria. My question is this: I want to move to Nigeria while we're waiting on his visa to be approved. Will this effect the visa process or create a problem in getting it approved? I'm wanting to work while I'm in Nigeria so I can maintain my financial status. It's just extremely hard being away from him and I find it hard to function. This is my solution to the problem and to prove our relationship is real.

Please any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Welcome to VJ. The process does take a long time from the US, I don't know if moving to Nigeria, will be any easier on the paperwork or the time it takes? It would be easier on your relationship, for you would be together meanwhile. I would call the officials and ask before making such a move. Find out what is required from you to be able to do the paperwork from there. It is my understanding that having a steady job with a sufficient income is important to be able to be approved. So do you have a job already lined up there? I suggest you consult an attorney or the immigration department for the needed answers. Best of luck.

I don't have a job lined up yet. This was just something that we are considering. I'm having him look for a job for me now. I'm currently employed here in the states and won't give this job up till I have something else arranged. Thank you for your help!

You need to read the instructions for the I-864 Affidavit of Support and all the guides. The sponsor must be domiciled in the United States. You would need an address in the States where both of you would live. That can be your parents house or any other US address.

You would either need a job where your income would continue once you were back in the States or a co-sponsor who was a citizen or permanent resident. You can sponsor him based on assets. Again read the instructions for the I-864.

I understand how you feel and I too when going through the process wanted to move to Naija but after weighing the options it was best for me to just go and visit often and stay for months and that is what I did. Because you will need a work visa and keep in mind Naija is not the easiest place to find a job. I dont think it will create a problem getting approved but it will create a problem as you showing your Domicile in the USA and will you be able to still support him on the affidavit of support? Good luck with your decision and welcome to VJ and when you get a chance please :time:

is your fiance willing for you to come work in Nigeria assuming you are able to get the necessary papers¿

Also will your job here not be affected; what about your bills here suppose you have to leave- except of course you live with your parents then that would work.

Goodluck in your decisions.

if you want to move to nigeria it wont have a major impact on the speed or decision for the case. living together would provide more evidence and you would have more pictures etc etc. BUT if you do move to Nigeria and are not employed and domiciled in the US, you will most likely need a co-sponsor to help you meet the income requirements.

Pls have a job lined up. I just got back from a 3 month trip to nigeria to be with my fiance. It was easier for me to get a job cos am a wedding photographer.

So before u make dat move. Have a job ready.

And again, have a co-sponsor ready because your income in nigeria might not be a enough based on 125% poverty requirement.
