How long from marriage to Green Card?

I've been told to expect the AOS process to take 2 months. Just wondering how accurate that time frame is... if some people who have been through this could tell me how long it took for the green card to arrive (from the wedding day), it'd be a big help.

May 2008- L is pushed into jagged rocks by a 12 ft wave while surfing in Chile. K saves her from certain watery death. Performs CPR and secretly enjoys it.

Sept 2008- L returns to the U.S. to finish school.

Dec 2008- K wins a surfing competition, uses prize money to buy L ticket to Chile.

Jan 2009- L visits K in Chile, 5 months pregnant!

April 2009- future world champion of surfing is born

Nov 2010- engaged!

Nov 28, 2010- petition sent

Dec 3, 2010- NOA 1

Dec 10, 2010- touched

May 6, 2011- NOA 2

May 17, 2011- sent to Embassy from NVC

no, AOS takes months, but if you apply for Advance Parole at the same time as green card then you should get approval to travel in 2-3 months, otherwise you may be looking at 5 months? Best thing to do is search timelines on this website.

There are too many variables to give an accurate answer. The most important is filing the packet properly and without reason for an RFE. Even then, USCIS may misplace your papers and ask for a do-over of certain forms/medical procedures. Maybe you'll get tranferred to the California Service Center, which often means no interview but may or may not mean faster processing. Etc.

I will say that it seems recently there have been a number of people on this board, myself included, who have received their Green Card approval in roughly 2 months. That's pretty unscientific since the people posting here are a drop in the bucket compared to the number of real-life applicants, but it is not unreasonable to think that you can get it done in 2 months.

Well for starters could you please update your timeline. If you have sent off AOS it takes anywhere form 4-6 months for some but the average is 4 months. Depends on when you sent ti in. If you applied for EAD and AP you will get them roughly around 2 months but GC is def 4 months or sometimes longer depending if you have to have an interview or not. If your case is transferred to CSC then usually no interview and gets done quicker. My GC was done in 4 months.

Depends on your local office, depends on if you were transferred, depends on how busy you bio office is. I came in last April on a K1, and only had biometrics in September, and only received my green card end of January.

Thanks to you and everyone else for the info. We're actually still waiting for NOA2 on 129f, but trying to plan for the future. I guess everybody's kind of in limbo and can't really make plans until they get a green card.

Well if you don't apply for AOS after your marriage, then you can't even start the clock. So, a more accurate question would be how long to get GC after you send in the AOS paperwork. I'd say around 4 months, sometimes more sometimes less. 2 months is very rare. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Look at our timeline

Yes. The employment status is a temporary measure so you can work while the GC is pending. Once you get your GC, then the GC itself gives you the right to work and travel, and you don't need the employment doc anymore.

I think it depends on when you file. A lot of us January 2011 filers flew through the process. I was 2 months and 10 days from the time I posted the application to the time I received the green card in my hand.

I think it really just depends on the luck of the backlog at the time :S

Part of that depends on how quickly after marriage you file your papers. For my wife and I we filed 2 weeks after we were married - It took 63 days to get the Work Authorization and Advanced Parole. The Green card came about 1 month later. (about 90 days)

I just got packet 3 from the embassy but I´m already working on what I will need for AOS and Work Permit. I legally lived / worked in The USA for 4 years so I already have a SS number and a valid Driving License, so I wonder if that is going to make the process smoother.

We file our AOS December 2010. Received my AP and EAD February 2011 and our interview will be on May 2. So it took almost 5 months. Plus we don't know yet when to get the card after the interview. Good luck to us.
