The two main issues are basically non-issues really. The property rights thing aside, the bottom line is if you pursue a K1 then there is no problem because you won't be marrying in Thailand. Even if Thailand tries to say she can't legally immigrate to the US if you are over 50, there is presumably nothing to stop her from going to Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia or any other nearby country on holiday and then flying from there.

As for being married in another country. Doesn't matter. As long as you register the marriage and have a legal marriage certificate then the US will recognize it. (whether they grant a visa based on the marriage is a whole different ball game, but that's why we are all here :-p).

Makes sense. There is something very disturbing and weird about middle aged dudes going to foreign countries and marrying women (or should i say girls?) two decades their junior or more.

There are laws governing age of consent. I couldn't marry someone two decades younger than me due to those laws. So yeah.. thinking I'm envious because I can't marry a freakin child is pretty stupid o

This was posted on the BBC website on March 21st. The BBC is normally pretty reliable.

I guess in some ways it makes sense, but not every man over 50 is looking for a child bride...seems to be punishing all for the actions of some.

Oh, but....that's in Cambodia not Thailand. hmmm, my bad :blush:

What I don't understand is that the profile of the OP states he filed for K1, which is a fiance visa and yet he asks about marrying in Thailand?

First of all, if you file for K1, you are NOT allowed to marry anywhere else besides the US. Of course, you could but then your visa is not valid anymore. If you want to marry outside the US, you will need to file for a different kind of visa.

But like many others also said, what is the real problem here? Either you file for K1 and marry in the US, or you can marry in some other country and come here on a different visa, either way Thailand can not do anything about that. And, in the end, does it matter if your marriage is legal in Thailand or not? I believed that you filed for a K1 (or any other visa) to get your fiance (or spouse) to the US so you can live together in the US. It really doesn't matter if Thailand honors that marriage or not.
