You all speak a language laden with acronyms, few of which any new players in the K1/K3 visa process understands. I work in a couple of fields where the acronyms we use would befuddle anyone outside our profession from understanding ####### we are talking about, e.g. did you ever wonder what a TWAIN interface is? The protocol between any scanner and a computer? It means Technology Without An Interesting Name. Really.

Is there some dictionary one can access that explains these Visa-specific terms to us newbies so we can translate and benefit from your posts?

AOS actually has two meanings: Adjustment of Status as you posted. However, it also has a second meaning, for those that apply for IR-1/CR-1 which has processing steps at the NVC (National Visa Center), AOS means Affidavit of Support.

AOS is never used as affidavit of support here as you well know even though you have a point but affidavit is always referred to as I-134 or I-864

I have seen posts on VJ where the poster was using AOS in the context of affidavit of support and even had to explain that was in fact what they were talking about. I grant you that it is rare; but not never.

I will also say that it is better spell it out or use the form number to avoid confusion since AOS is more commonly used for Adjustment of Status.

I always wondered about that.. I saw 'AOS' in relationship to an IR-1/CR-1 and thought 'Why? They enter as LPRs."

Another is AP, which can mean 'Advance Parole' or 'Administrative Processing' depending on the context.
