City or county.. either is fine.. call and ask if they can do it before you drive there as not all are willing to provide this documentation..

No, I'm totally clean :) I need those letters because my fingerprints were said to be unclassifiable even though I did it twice. But I dunno how to get those letters and what it should states in those since I'm totally clean :). 4 police stations actually, 2 of which are from the city I used to live for 2 months last summer. And I called them earlier but they don't know about such a thing so they need me to fax the letter from USCIS tomorrow. It would be the pain in the butt if I needed to drive there because it's like 6 hrs drive for a round trip =.=

They require both. I mean city plus county. So basically 4 letters need to be sent :(

Her RFE is for AOS....

Odd that they want 4 since they should all reflect the same info.... my city police will not have more or less data than the county sheriff..did they clearly say 4 or was that your conclusion/interpretation?

Yeah I received RFE today, after my interview. You can get RFE anytime, even after interviews. So it's normal.

Odd that they want 4 since they should all reflect the same info.... my city police will not have more or less data than the county sheriff..did they clearly say 4 or was that your conclusion/interpretation?

It stated such a thing. It said please submit police clearance letters from the following:

1. The police department of The city where I used to live last summer

2. The sheriff department of its county

3. The police department of my current city

4. The sheriff department of my current county.

Please submit all of the evidences requested.

So obviously they want 4 letters, right?

They probably want those four because information doesn't always pass between states and / or departments - so, even if they just saw a police department report, she sheriff department's record might have information the police report didn't. Since they couldn't process your fingerprints, they weren't able to do a background check on you. Apparently there is also variation between states on what are the jurisdiction regulations between sheriff's departments and police departments.

If you never have committed a crime, I'd assume that is all the letter needs to state.

Actually I would not be surprised if they charged me but the thing is they didn't charge me at all. I just came there, handed them a RFE letter from USCIS and asked them to write a clearance letter for me. And they said they would send it to my house next week. Still there are 2 police stations to go .
