Hi,

I filed a K-1 application on January 14, 2011 at the TSC seeking to bring my fiance from China to the U.S. (I live in Cincinnati OH) The application was accepted and my check was cashed. Currently on the USCIS website, it is showing that my application is at the “initial review” stage of processing. I have never had any problems with the law. My deceased wife was from Wuhan China, and my fiance is a physician in Beijing. On the USCIS website, it is showing 5 months to process the application. Is that 5 months to do the whole matter, or 5 months to get it out of Texas? I also see a reference to NOA2. What is that?

On another website, I saw a statement that the whole process could be done in 5 months, but I am getting the sense here that 5 months only applies to the initial U.S. review. Should I expect any notifications while my application is under “initial review?” Any other comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

JDD

I've been in "Initial Review" for about 5 months now - I haven't heard anything from USCIS since my NOA1. I'm beginning to think it takes more like 6 or 7 months? And that that 5-month thing is inaccurate. Maybe with all of the state budget cuts, there are less people working on more applications/petitions...

Texas does not work on K-1s, VSC or CSC does, it should state on your NOA1 where your petition is. Texas is only a sorting center.

It is 5-6 months for an approval at USCIS. Then another 2-4 months at the embassy depending on what embassy and what their interview booking rate is. Also how fast your fiance would return her information that the embassy wants.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Inky,

The USCIS website says the Texas Service Center takes 5 months to process. See https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/ProcTimes.do However, you are right that the NOA refers to the CSC. Does it make any difference in time as to where your application was initially sent.

Thanks,

JD

All K-1 Petitions are initially sent to Texas. They remove the check, repackage your petition and then FWD it to VSC or CSC.

VSC - taking 6 months or more to process k-1s. They are going VERY slow.

CSC - 5-6 months CSC has been a little faster than VSC.

Right now everyone wants to be at CSC which is where yours is at, good thing!

Brother, first of all...WELCOME to VJ. Second, :guides: There is a lot to process, but you will find good help in the China forum if you ask, however, a lot of the veterans don't like to repeatedly answer the routine basic questions of the newbie-type. With that being said, ask away and we will help to our best abilities. Good luck!

Click on the forums button at the top of the page, scroll down to the regional section and look for china. Everything there is specific to the embassy and such.

I think it needs clarification:

All petitions are sent to the Texas LOCKBOX.

Then they are either routed to California or Vermont Service Centers.

The actual Service Center in Texas does not process I-129F petitions.

Hi Garfield,

I read the guidelines. They were useful. However, you referred to a Chinese forum, and I couldn't find it. Could you tell me how to find it.

Best wishes,

JD

The other way to do it is select "Portals" at the top of the screen and set your preference to "China".
