I wasn't able to get my ssn 2 weeks after I got here in the US and before my visa and I-94 expired. I just want to know how long it will take til I will get my ssn after I have done my biometrics? I am hoping it will be sooner cause we haven't filed our tax returns yet because I dont have the social security number yet. Will it be possible for the SSA to issue one for me if I'll contact them? I am praying we'll get it sooner! HOPE TO HEAR FEEDBACK FROM YOU! THANK YOU1

Well as you don't have a time line it is hard to know what you are AOS from. Don't know why you could not get a SSN some offices don't know the procedure so you could have gone to another office and tried. You will have to wait for EAD or Gc now before yu get SSN. Even though I think if you tried another office you would be able to get it. I was able to get mine too 4 weeks after my arrival.

You Can Not get your SSN after your biometrics. You need either the EAD card or the GC in order to, now, get your SSN. Usually about 10 business days after you submit your application at the SSA office.

No, you can't get your EAD or GC until after you complete your biometrics; see our timeline for details.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. My attempts to procure my wife an SSN number got botched up by the SSA and I didn't know enough about it at that time to push back. Now we're less than 3 weeks out from tax deadline and I need a number for my wife. Fortunately, perhaps, her EAD was approved a week ago and I'm hopeful that if I get the card in the next few days, I'll have enough time to get the SSN. Still, I'm going to be cutting it awfully close.

You have two options, one is to get your spouse an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number or apply for an extension on your tax return.

You won't be able to obtain a SSN until you get your EAD or GC.

You can still do your taxes without and SSN you just need to get an ITIN from the IRS.
