Hi there,

I have been reading many articles about the impact of a Government Shutdown and how it can affect USCIS and looks like it will have little impact if any, according to the following statement:

" USCIS has announced that, because it is funded by filing fees, it should remain open during a government shutdown. The operations of the four Service Centers should remain largely unaffected. Local USCIS District Offices should also remain open".

Thats good news lets hope it is true.

What about the FBI fingerprint and background check on which USCIS depends. I don't see this thing having zero effect either.

FBI would not shut down they are considered HOMELAND SECURITY

The USCIS is also a part of the United States Department of Homeland Security.

I give up, have a bunch of so-called conservative republicans that run this country deep into debt, democrats aren't even given a chance to correct that, so the republicans are again in power blocking just about everything. But somewhere under both the democrats and republicans, the 400 richest families in this country have managed to gain over 50% of our total wealth.

Instead of hounding our congress, we should be hounding those 400 richest families.

You know, when I was going through paramedic school, I suffered 7 heart attacks, 4 strokes, an infarcted bowel and lung cancer. When I went to my doctor for this he laughed and said that's what you get for learning medicine. There was nothing wrong with me. Why the hell would the government shutdown now that we are all have pending business with the government? Does the government have a track record of shutting down? The government is not going to shutdown. Stress, that's all it is.

Seriously? Just because I'm about to apply for mine? (sorry, just a selfish joke ). Oh well... very bad if this is true.

My friend who works in the goverment told me that is more likely that the goverment shutdown happens on April 8, if so inmigration offices would stop working and my citizenship that is in process right now would be in stand by! and other services including passport aplications! Does anybody else know more about this???

Actually that isn't true. There are already measures in place to keep "essential services" in place. Things like medicare, social security pension and other social programs will continue to run. The diplomatic service and foreign consulates will also continue to operate as normal.

Not true as the cable to embassies has this:

E. Consular Operations Overseas: Consular sections should cease the provision of routine consular services.

There may be an option to provide USCs with services in extreme cases (emergency passport, return of abducted children...) or even issuing non-immigrant visa to a very ill US relative but regular visa processing will stop if there is no budget in place tonight at midnight.

"House Speaker John Boener (R-Ohio) announces a budget deal at the U.S. Capitol on April 8, 2011. “I’m pleased that Senator Reid and I and the White House have been able to come to an agreement that will, in fact, cut spending and keep our government open,” Boehner said."

You have to know Boehner's name if you want to pass the civics test, but that is all you have to know. Feel this country is in pretty bad shape when two guys can't even agree if tax money is used to pay for abortions via Planned Parenthood, what in the hell are those 533 other guys doing through all this? And what is Obama doing beside getting ready to lay off 800,000 government workers? Isn't he suppose to be some kind of a leader? And why is Boehner so much against federally funded abortions if there is such a thing since he likes to play around?

Wisconsin is talking about a major recall of our elected officials, seems this should be nation wide. But since they agreed to keep the government open for at least awhile, all this will be forgotten.
