Here is the quote from the most recent bulletin regarding the Egypt travel warning and embassy status:

"The U.S Embassy in Cairo remains on ordered departure status for dependents, but most employees have returned, and the Embassy is resuming normal operations."

So I hope that means that they'll be able to assist you soon!

Passing harsh judgment on those you don't know says nothing of the judged and everything of the judge.

If you are a faculty member and can provide enough information to CO that you are being sent to this workshop or seminar by school/college then you got pretty gopd chance you might get the visa.

Also if you are married and have family members as wife and kids who will not be going with you for this 7 day trip, you stand a good chance to get a visa and B1 might be the option for you to go with.
