Immigrant visa checklist (original or certified marriage certificate)

Hi folks,

While sending out the documents along with DS-230, is it recommended to send US notazied Marriage certificate or there's no harm in sending "original Marriage Certificate to the NVC"?

Also, for the Indian applicants, do you know if there's any harm if in the Birth certificate, my spouse has "ben" suffix at the end of her name?

NVC requires either an original or certified copy of the original marriage certificate. If you do not send the original you must send a copy certified by the issuing authority and not merely notarized. If you send a certified copy to the NVC, you will need to have the original with you at the consulate for your interview.

yup same here. they return the original to you at the interview. make sure you put your case # on the originals (top left or right hand corner) though (yes I know, not a very appealing concept of defacing your original, but better to do it lest it get lost in the paper shuffle and then they cant reunite it w/ your other docs - it happens at NVC all the time!).
